Abstract
We see the “reform in continuity” in the Church’s teaching on the value of Saint Thomas Aquinas as Philosophy, and, more particularly, as guide in the philosophical studies of candidates to the priesthood, in four ways: a) in the identification of the principal problem that functions as a cornerstone in such teaching and that endures throughout time – the relation between faith and reason; b) in the study of the Magisterium’s interventions regarding Saint Thomas as philosopher, particularly as regards the time immediately before the Second Vatican Council; c) in the interpretation of the Council’s text that deals with the argument – Optatam totius, n. 15; and lastly, d) in the post-conciliar reception of this teaching.
