Abstract

Argues that a reappraisal of traditional sexual morality can and should be undertaken within an expanded Judeo-Christian framework. The author explores the evolution of sexual ethics from the creation stories of Adam and Eve, through the Ten Commandments, the stories of Jesus, the early church, and the Reformation, to the ideas of Freud, Jung, and current psychological perspectives. Writing that we need to look at sex before marriage, homosexuality, adultery, and other issues in a new light, he rejects appeals to natural law, the Bible, religious authority, social duty, and community values as arguments for maintaining the old outlook. Paper edition (unseen), $19.95. Annotation copyrighted by Book News, Inc., Portland, OR.
