Abstract

Tryon argues that: a) information is defined as uncertainty reduction, b) valid explanations must be informative, c) therefore valid explanations must reduce uncertainty. Among other sections were two that discussed a point of equivalence between information and statistical theory. Lamiell directs his several criticisms to implications of statistical theory for explanation including the introduction and criticism of null hypothesis testing. This rejoinder nullifies Lamiell’s criticisms and emphasizes the important contributions information theory makes to our understanding and evaluation of explanations. 2012 APA, all rights reserved)
