L’affinità genetica tra noi e lo scimpanzè doveva costituire un vantaggio per tutti, ma, al contrario, ci ha posti su un piano di rivalità interspecifica che ci condurrà a un vicolo cieco. Il bilancio della vita Terra è in passivo. Noi uomini siamo in debito con il futuro e le sue generazioni. Non siamo più in grado di far tesoro delle esperienze negative del passato. Guerre, so­praffazioni, razzismi, genocidi, disastri ambientali e inquinamento, sono gli esempi più evidenti di un malessere che forse abbiamo interiorizzato e che ci costringe a vivere della morte e della sofferenza degli altri animali, anche di quelli con cui siamo più strettamente imparentati, gli scimpanzè appunto.The genetic affinity between man and chimpanzees should have helped us but on the contrary, it has created an interspecific rivalry which will not lead anywhere. The balance of the Earth is in the red. We are already in debt to the future and subsequent generations. We have not learned from our past negative experiences. War, abuse of power, racism, genocide, environmental disasters and pollution are evident examples of an ailment that we have interiorized and constrains us to live with the death and pain of other animals even those with whom we are tightly related, principally the chimpanzees
