Abstract
The aim[aut]Lexicography of this chapter is to investigate the way a practical approach to teaching lexicographyLexicography to master's students may complement their theoretical training[aut]Training in this field, raising awareness of the challenges of dictionary[aut]Dictionary compilation. Our assumption is that involving students in practical projects affords them the opportunity to apply their previously acquired theoretical input in the field of lexicographyLexicography. In the first part, the chapter will discuss the controversy surrounding the status of lexicography from the perspective of its dual nature, and its impact on teaching lexicographyLexicography. Then, it will focus on the workflow of two projects designed to involve master's students in each[aut]Dictionary-making stage of dictionary-makingDictionary-making, in an attempt to underline the difficulties they faced, and the potential contribution of these projects to their lexicographic training[aut]Traininglexicographic training. It will be argued that, even though these activities are not specifically meant to prepare future lexicographers, the insight gained as part of their lexicographic training can help improve students’ dictionary consultation skills and their ability to critically assess a dictionary, turning them into more competent dictionary users.
