Abstract

This article is devoted to the study of features of representation of national identity in the city, in Dnepropetrovsk by the tourist gaze. So author is articulated the understanding of constructed national identity which is expressed in objectification existence of the state through the organization of a national model space with its filling of informative content. It is the basis of mechanism design of national identity and it explains the possibility of representation in the national tourist sites. In the article is described the concept of banal nationalism by M.Billig, which draws attention to the fact that nationalism rests not only on loud declarations but also daily routine and ideas. The author of the article suggests the using of banal nationalism to the idea of tourist sites as a means of representation of national identity. To this end, the article analyzes tourist sites of the city of Dnepropetrovsk. There are situated historical monuments and museums, theaters and cultural centers, sports facilities, industrial facilities, and even the natural part of the urban landscape. The results of this research is allocated the five different images that broadcast tourist attractions of Dnepropetrovsk and represent a whole national identity in different parts – such historical, cultural, natural, industrial parts and sport.
