beauty ‐ probably being today, the most neglected of the divine attributes ascription of beauty to God in Western religious traditions ‐ traced back to Plato and the Bible most influential of these early treatments in The Divine Names, a treatise ‐ known as Pseudo‐Dionysius written by Syrian monk St Thomas Aquinas' fullest treatment of divine beauty ‐ in his commentary on The Divine Names Natural theology ‐ Summa Theologiae, Aquinas outlining a two‐pronged argument for ascribing perfections to God Revelation claims ‐ experiences, regarded as revelations of God God's beauty, related to light ‐ in the sense of intellectual or spiritual illumination, wisdom, knowledge, and truth two other possible starting points for a philosopher ‐ the divine nature itself and the beauty of creation
