Abstract

The text carries out an analysis and interpretation of the reactions occasioned by the Italian philosophical debate immediately after the publication of the collection Il pensiero debole in 1983. These reactions reject the hypothesis about the weak thought rather than adequately critically judge it or endeavor for its clearer understanding. The author interprets this reactivity as the defense of one’s own personal privileges and powers and therefore as the incapability of critics to reveal the “apparitions” of their own weaknesses. It turns out that, by endeavoring to banish weak thought, these radical critics reveal but their own fears and various syndromes. This way they turn in the direction which is quite the opposite of that of weak thought in the “Praise of Bashfulness”, i.e. the philosophical or existential attitude as espoused by weak thought
