Gender and Cultural Representation in the Context of Museum: A Case Study on Women Culture Museum

Abstract

In recent years, a growing number of scholars have started to focus on gender and cultural characterization studies, but this research in the context of women's special museum has not yet attracted sufficient attention. Any museum exhibition is a construct of the event, means a complex system. Directly in the analysis of exhibits means and on the basis of subtle means, check the meaning of the generation, dissemination and exchange, examining the integration of women under the thematic museums language means cultural representation and practice. In the process of cultural representation, all the way through the discourse of the participants involved in the gender significance of the competition. It is through the exhibits into the discursive practices involved in the gender system and the significance of the fight, and then deep into the social practice level. In recent years, more and more scholars devote themselves to the study of gender and culture representation, but the study doesn't arise enough attention in the context of women's thematic museum. Any exhibition of museum is a kind of construction as well as a complicated signifying system. By analyzing exhibits' denotation and connotation and inspecting the generation, transformation and communication of meaning, we survey cultural representation and signifying practices in the context of women topic museum. In the process of cultural representation, all participants are involved in the competition for gender meaning through discourses. The exhibits on display take part in the competition by entering the system of discourse practice and then plunge into social practice
