Narrativa e giochi di verità [Fiction and games of truth]
Abstract
According to Foucault, fiction is a «game of truth» : it is a discursive formation employed by our culture to create images of the world. Fiction, in turn, is part of a wider discursive formation, known as mimesis, and it possesses some internal characteristics you may find in texts usually considered as tales. In Plato’s Republic you can see the first attempt to define the characteristics of mimesis and fiction, confronting them with an alternative game of truth, that is philosophy. Starting from the key texts of ancient poetic, this essay reflects upon the a priori of fiction, trying to understand why our culture ascribed such an high consideration to tales in the last two centuries
