Abstract

It seems obvious –or almost- that we dopossess a great amount of modal knowledge. We know a lot about necessary factsobtainingin mathematics, and we alsoknowa lot about the contingent characterof“middle size dry goods”, for example.Thequestion is how to explain that knowledge. In particular, this work will discusstheimpact that the dilemma posed by PaulBenacerrafin the mathematical case wouldhaveover modal statements, consideringtheconceptions about modal facts andpossibleworlds advanced by David LewisandSaul Kripke
