Abstract

University of Muhammadiyah Malang, Meaning of Weapons as a symbol of social cultural communication of the community. Supervisor M.Himawan Sutanto, M.Si In human culture there is a technology called a weapon to protect oneself or to survive. One of the weapons that still exists today is the Celurit weapon. This weapon, which is characteristic of the Madurese tribe, is still owned by the Madurese community because there are values ​​stored in the Celurit weapon. The Celurit weapon is not just a weapon for the Madurese tribe. Furthermore, the Madurese tribe highly upholds the culture of the Celurit weapon itself. The research results reveal that the Celurit weapon is a representation of Madurese culture. The symbols in the Celurit weapon do not only tell us that the Celurit is identical to Madura, if it is further traced, the Celurit weapon is the philosophy of the Madurese man which symbolizes masculinity, honor and also the pride of Madurese men.
