Abstract

Hippocrates, celebrated as the Father of Medicine, emphasized the importance of observation in diagnosis and prognosis. In so doing, he argued that the observant physician could draw on both senses and logic in interpreting clinical findings for the benefit of the patient. Among his many writings is a collection of aphorisms that remain highly relevant to the practice of medicine to this day.
