Aesthetic Difference and Literary Identity: An Aesthetic Reading of Contemporary Chinese Prose Writing

Abstract

Prose writing can be said to characterize the specific culture, not only classical prose record the spiritual content of classical culture, still at the development of contemporary culture and the uncertainty implied by subversive, but also by the contemporary art of prose writing and be presented. The contemporary writer is writing prose in the context of globalization, showing the course for contemporary cultural identity. This so-called art of prose writing, "identity" is not written in a prose work on the identification and duplication of existing reality, but to the art of writing prose works is to re-establish the value of the difference of language, for aesthetic experience of contemporary culture, ethics values, religious feelings ... ... and so the difference identity. In this paper, from the "text" of the double meaning of "text" writing and "culture" of the creation of mutual relations. Secondly, that the function of prose and art of writing prose and the difference between correlation to illustrate the nature of contemporary art of prose writing, and thus differ from the aesthetic point of view, to reflect the beauty of prose written in the search for the meaning of identity; and according to the analysis of contemporary Chinese works of art written in prose, the beauty of the hidden dimension of identity and religious identity. It is in aesthetic, cognitive, moral, religious difference in a variety of different experiences realized in contemporary prose writing of contemporary human experience of different cultures, and therefore differences in writing of contemporary culture and identity. The aim of this paper is to expose the aesthetic meaning of identity and difference in the process of contemporary Chinese prose-writing, embodied with the characteristics of uncertainty and subversion of the culture in developing. This paper argues that the aesthetic dimension of literary / cultural identity in contemporary Chinese prose-writing consists in the attitude of taking prose-writing as a way of searching the trace of existence in vanishing world, through the rehabilitation of language of difference, in pursuing the sense of beauty, ethic value and religious sentiment in the living culture, rather than in the intention of recognizing the author's social status or repeating the established reality presented in the text. This paper will firstly discuss the intimate relationship between textual writing and cultural production in Chinese literature, in re-examining the poietic meanings of the character "wen", both in wenzi and wenhua . It will illustrate the aesthetic characteristics of contemporary Chinese prose-writing by the literary relevance implied in the distinction between the aesthetic attitude of artistic writing of prose, and the utilitarian attitude taking writing as instrument. Further, from the viewpoint of aesthetic differences, this paper will read more in detail several texts as models to expose how the contemporary writers use their pen to draw the sense of literary and cultural identity in the ruin of memory
