This paper investigates in detail the historical evolution between morality and intellect in traditional Chinese thought. It contends that the intellect has undergone a transition process from an indistinguishable relationship to a differentiation. This transition can be seen as unifying intellect with morality to ruling morality with intellect, and from improving morality with intellect to mediating morality with intellect. From this process, it has been shown that Chinese traditional thought has gradually become aware of the special value of the independence of knowledge in enriching and improving morality. It has also shown that the future trend of human morality will necessarily be intellectual
