Abstract

The author first presents the turning point caused by the publication of the work La crisi della ragione in 1979 and then concentrates on the collection Il pensiero debole from 1983 – which stirred vivid debates in Italian philosophy for a decade – and on the differences between Vattimo’s and Rovatti’s views, both editors of the collection. Vattimo, the heir of Pareyson’s hermeneutics, develops his notion of the weakening of metaphysical claims for truth through the ontological view of late Heidegger. Rovatti, on the other hand, shows evidence of a strong presence of Paci’s phenomenology, which directs him toward interpreting the weakening of thought as the quest for the new formation of the question of subjectivity
