Abstract
Contributors examine Victorian predecessors of the Modernist biography, drawing out the continuities in biographical practice. Biographers and scholars consider the usefulness of biography in approaching late Victorian artists, and scrutinize the modern biography across disciplines and from a variety of vantage points. Additional essays on E.M. Forster and the relations between England and India analyze the role of cultural difference in biography. The collection ends with a tribute to Mary Lago, a scholar whose work has influenced all of the essays included here. Annotation copyrighted by Book News, Inc., Portland, OR.
