The statutory mechanical license in india: Whose version [of the law] is correct?

Abstract

The paper examines Section 52 (1)(j) of the Indian Copyright Act 1957 that provides a statutory license to manufacture versions recordings of literary and musical works. The paper examines the various cases on the point and also looks at the genesis of this provision in US and UK law with reference to the business of music publishing.
