Morale in the context of socio-cultural evolution: characteristics modifications

Abstract

The article deals with the transformation of value and norm structures within the scope of traditional, modern and postmodern societies. Great attention is paid to the transformation of values of moral subjects, the type of interactions of individuals and statuses of social institutions that influence on forming of moral guidelines, standards and aims in socium. It is underlined that structure of social groups, way of society organization in whole and, as a consequence, prevalent type of moral regulation are transformed drastically with transition from one social and cultural type of society to another. Author stresses the importance of social groups that influence on articulation and keeping norms and values in each historical period. For example, these are family, clan, tribe in traditional society, kin; state, nation, class, workshop in modern society and communities of interest in postmodern society. These social groups produce definite value and normative frames and rules, supporting of which provides normal society functioning, legitimize specific practices in the sphere of moral choice. Also the author stresses the specificity of moral existence in different types of society in the form of “heightening” of concrete social and cultural spaces in basic spheres of social life.
