Externship counseling

Abstract

"Externship Counseling" discusses the key points in the relationship between the student and the supervising faculty when counseling can help the student select, prepare for, and succeed at, an externship experience, and the goals for each such moment. The author describes and reflects on her experience with particular students to illustrate the challenges of such counseling, and recommends topics for further discussion among faculty about how to perform this important teaching function.
