Abstract

This article aims at analysing Arendt’s thinking about the development of the occidental political tradition taking into account the revolutions that have marked the modernity, especially the French and American Revolutions. The political experiences that have emerged from this movement meant the impossibility of plurality and action in the political sphere, in most cases. According to Arendt one of the main reasons for these interruptions was the replacement of political freedom for the maintenance of socioeconomic equalities claimed by people in the troubled revolutionary periods
