Abstract

As far as the language learning situation is concerned, different methods and techniques have so far been proposed for Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages . The most recent trend in language learning seems to be the Communicative Approach, as a result of which the students experience feelings of both security and assurance. From among the various techniques suggested in the framework of the Communicative Approach, ‘problem-solving’ and ‘role-playing’ are the most common and entertaining. The focus of the present article, however, is on role-play since I believe it is prior to and more important than problem-solving, in which logical reasoning and processes rather than ‘performance objectives’ are involved.
