Abstract

The codex Vaticanus latinus 10380 contains the earliest medieval didactic poem dealing with the causes of earthquakes. Because the author, an anonymous writer of the first half of the twelfth century, successively considers ancient poetry, pagan philosophy , and Christian doctrine, the text seems to be part of the famous intellectual tradition that is known as the ‘school of Chartres’.
