Abstract

An Analysis from the perspective of the discourse critical analysis of the piece of work "Institutions, Institutional Change and Economic Performance", whose author is Douglass North, Nobel Prize for Economics in 1993, will be presented in this article. The objective of this paper is to study the author’s view regarding the rationality, for such goal a corpus has been selected, which is made up of the group of paragraphs that make reference to it. The model used is conceived from the semantic and pragmatic perspective, whose theoretical framework is based on the works of Van Dijk , Molero and Franco , and Molero . The semantic and pragmatic analysis leads to the conclusion that the piece of work analysed, despite, the critic made by North to the assumptions of the neoclassic school, is still trapped under the control of the rational election model. The need to liberate the reason is expressed, giving special interest to the languaje and the context within a transdisciplinary perspective, where the study of the phenomena leads us to more to other spheres of knowledge.
