The "reinvented" Descartes of the title denotes the spontaneous Cartesianism of those who, knowingly or not, presuppose or adopt positions resembling those of the historical Descartes. The historical Descartes accepted many propositions Sorell thinks we must reject; what remains, he calls "innocent Cartesianism."
