Abstract

Summary The paper discusses the reflexive grounding of knowledge put forward by the Transcendental Pragmatics. It describes the opposition between theory and reflection as two different attitudes towards knowledge, and stresses the reflexive turn of the Transcendental Pragmatics. With regard to the “ultimate” grounding of knowledge (Letztbegr¨undung), it points out the conceptual difficulties of “pure reflection”, as well as the conceptual quandaries of “pure theory”. Finally, the paper argues that a “reflexive theory” can be a middle path suitable for a grounding of knowledge.
