Abstract

Il concetto di individuo ha conosciuto nella nostra epoca una profonda trasformazione, che ha segnato la fine del soggetto quale centro trasparente di razionalità, autocostituito prima di ogni relazione. Oggi vengono soprattutto sottolineati la vulnerabilità dell’individuo, i limiti del suo sapere e del suo potere di controllo riguardo a se stesso e al mondo. L’attenzione al carattere inconciliabile della situazione esistenziale, la dimensione costitutiva della relazione intersoggettiva, la dinamica del riconoscimento reciproco configurano una soggettività che, nel momento stesso in cui rivendica la sua irriducibile singolarità, è anche profondamente consapevole della sua socialità, evitando così le opposte derive del comunitarismo repressivo e dell’individualismo illimitato.In our time the concept of the individual has underwent a deep transformation. The crisis of the idea of the subject as a transparent centre of rationality previously constituted as independent from any social relation, has given way to the acknowledgment of the essential vulnerability of the individual, of the limits of his capacity to control the surrounding world or even himself. The new attention to the contradictions of existential situation, to the founding character of intersubjectivity, to the dynamic of mutual recognition is orienting philosophical and sociological theory to a conception of subjectivity conscious, at the same time, of the irreducible singularity of each individual and of the deep links of the latter with social reality, thus avoiding both the opposites of repressive communitarism and limitless individualism
