The City and Gender's Narration of the Left Film: Focusing on the Empress of Physical Education

Abstract

1930s, rapid development of Shanghai and other cities urbanization, prompting the left-wing film, strong social concern to the city areas. "Sports Queen" alien culture, fashion and critical awareness of factors combined to explore particular interest. A new visual image of women was created. Director of women who use the "compact" of anxiety and discontent, to learn to Hollywood while avoiding the "Hollywood-based." The Left films began to concern the city life with the rapid expansion of Shanghai and other cities in 1930s. The Empress of Physical Education as one of the most noticeable films combined the foreign culture, fashion factors and criticized consciousness in which a new visual type of women had been created. The director learnt from the Hollywood but avoid being Hollywoodish
