On Dong Zhong-shu's Thoughts about the Heavenly Way and the Relationship between the Heaven and People

Abstract

"Cosmic View" refers to the formation of the universe, the relationship between the operation and held its fundamental point of view, the school in Han Heaven development, making Heaven on the important issue of Han philosophy. Dong inherited the one hand, "Lu Ji • Twelve" to 4:00 as the center, the yin and yang, five elements, four seasons with the organic into a complete system: the same time, on the other hand to build into a tighter system. The concept of Heaven that is, from its official operation of the gasification concept revealed in the universe, he was a popular theory of yin and yang, as the basic framework for the establishment of a "day" as the center, "Heaven and Man" for its unique On the relationship between Heaven; then this theory, the Confucian human, ethical, political and other issues, to be re-interpreted and given new meaning. This paper will: a day of meaning and Heaven; two dollars and vitality; third, Heaven and yin and yang; Fourth, the gas and the elements; five, between heaven and make an inquiry for the other five, in order to make the idea of Heaven and of Tung Chung-shu Heaven has a deepening relationship between philosophical reflection. The "view of the heavenly way" is the fundamental view about the formation and operations of the universe and the myriad things along with how the universe and things interact with each other. Thanks to the development of the philosophy of the heaven and people, the doctrine of the heavenly way became an important philosophical topic in the Han Dynasty. On the one hand, Dong Zhong-shu acceded to the organic system elaborated in the twelfth section of Lu's Spring and Autumn Annals; on the other hand, he refined the system in a more rigid way. The basic framework of Dong's view of the heavenly way is his doctrine about yin, yang and the five elements, constructing a doctrine about the relationships between the heaven and people that is centered on the "heaven" and characterized by the "interaction between the heaven and people." Based on this doctrine, he interpreted in a brand new way the issues about human nature, ethics and politics of the Pre-qin Confucianism. This paper is to explore the five aspects of his doctrine: first, the meaning of the heaven and the heavenly way; second, yuan and yuan qi ; fourth, qi and the five elements; and fifth, the interaction between the heaven and people
