Abstract

After outlining the laws concerning the safeguard of personal archives, the author illustrates the archives of Leone Caetani, which were donated to the “Accademia dei Lincei” in Rome together with his remarkable library. Both Caetani’s cultural and scientific interests, especially in the domain of Islamic historiography, and his monumental biographic projects come out from a thorough analysis of the Inventory, edited by Paola Ghione and Valentina Sagaria. A considerable number of letters, finally, testifies to his social and political commitment
