Abstract

Three Meditations for bass-baritone, chorus, and orchestra is on texts by G. C. Lichtenberg, Euripides, and Kahlil Gibran. It is in two sections. The first is comprised of two recitatives that offer viewpoints on the subject of life and death. The second section begins with an orchestral interlude where the soloist gradually turns his recitative into singing. The tempo quickens and the chorus delivers its own statement. The musical material of the second part is both a recapitulation and a development of the first
