Abstract

This study examines an Arabic local history of the mediaeval Islamic city of al-Raqqa in al-Jazira, modern northeastern Syria, the Taʾrīkh al-Raqqa of al-Qushayrī . Although the author’s prime concern is with the ulema, the theologians and religious lawyers of the city, his book does contain some insights into the history and topography of al-Raqqa
