Abstract

This paper seeks to draw attention to the existence of strong practical rationality in the work of Avempace, despite the primacy of theoretical reason, and of the search for an intelligible that is devoid of any link with the material and considered itself as the supreme end of human existence. The arguments used to defend the idea entail analysing the concept of???prudence??? in Avempace, as well as that of???right thinking???, which is prominent in the determination of the way of life that philosophers must adopt in unjust cities. In addition, the elucidation of these aspects is a measure of the intellectual distance between Avempace and the mystics, both on the ethical-political and ontotheological levels. R??sum?? L'objectif de ce travail est d'attirer l'attention sur l'existence d'une forte rationalit?? pratique dans l'??uvre d'Avempace, malgr?? la primaut?? accord??e?? la raison th??orique, et?? la qu??te d'un intelligible d??nu?? de tout lien avec la mati??re et pris en lui-m??me comme la fin supr??me de l'existence humaine. Les arguments servant?? d??fendre cette id??e mobilisent les analyses de la notion de???prudence??? chez Avempace, ainsi que celle de???pens??e droite???, fortement pr??sente au niveau de la d??termination de la conduite que le philosophe doit adopter dans les cit??s injustes. L'??lucidation de ces aspects permet, parall??lement, de prendre la mesure de la distance intellectuelle qui s??pare Avempace des mystiques?? la fois sur le plan??thico-politique et sur le plan onto-th??ologique.
