A Comparative Study of Advaita Vedanta and Post-Modernism.Shashank Srivastava - 2008 - Proceedings of the Xxii World Congress of Philosophy 8:245-249.
This paper is going to be a small study in the arena of comparative philosophy of the east and west. This study will show that ancient philosophies of India are still relevant in the modern world, and the modern philosophies in the western world is not a fruit of frustration, but both of them are two chief currents of thebrilliancy of human mind according to the development of human being and their need. Advaita Vedanta finds its extreme in nonduality, or (...)

Life and Death Decisions and COVID‐19: Investigating and Modeling the Effect of Framing, Experience, and Context on Preference Reversals in the Asian Disease Problem.Shashank Uttrani, Neha Sharma & Varun Dutt - 2022 - Topics in Cognitive Science 14 (4):800-824.
Prior research in judgment and decision making (JDM) has investigated the effect of problem framing on human preferences. Furthermore, research in JDM documented the absence of such reversal of preferences when making decisions from experience. However, little is known about the effect of context on preferences under the combined influence of problem framing and problem format. Also, little is known about how cognitive models would account for human choices in different problem frames and types (general/specific) in the experience format. One (...)

The future of experimental design: Integrative, but is the sample diverse enough?Sakshi Ghai & Sanchayan Banerjee - 2024 - Behavioral and Brain Sciences 47:e42.
Almaatouq et al. propose an “integrative approach” to increase the generalisability and commensurability of experiments. Yet their metascientific approach has one glaring omission (and misinterpretation of) – the role of sample diversity in generalisability. In this commentary, we challenge false notions of subsumed duality between contexts, population, and diversity, and propose modifications to their design space to accommodate sample diversity.

Disabled Women: An Excluded Agenda of Indian Feminism.Anita Ghai - 2002 - Hypatia 17 (3):49-66.
My purpose in this essay is to locate disabled women within the women's movement as well as the disability movement in India. While foregrounding the existential realities for disabled women in the Indian scene, I underscore the reasons for their absence from the agenda of Indian feminism. I conclude by reflecting on the possibilities of inclusion within Indian feminist thought.

    Corporate Stakeholder Management: Western and Indian Perspectives—An Overview.Shashank Shah & A. Sudhir Bhaskar - 2008 - Journal of Human Values 14 (1):73-93.
In recent times there have been scores of corporate failures all over the world due to moral turpitude, lack of good governance, and erosion of values. The need for a change in corporates’ approach towards stakeholder management is greater now than ever before. Though the term ‘stakeholder’ was first used in the West in the 1930s, this concept has been highlighted in the ancient Indian scriptures written centuries ago. These highlight the methodologies the kings used to ensure the welfare of (...)

Corporate Social Responsibility in an Indian Public Sector Organization: A Case Study of Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd.Shashank Shah & A. Sudhir Bhaskar - 2010 - Journal of Human Values 16 (2):143-156.
The society and local community is the resource pool from which any organization gets its manpower and also so to say ‘the license to operate’. The society is the entity to which an organization owes its existence. The organization exists in the society because of the inputs received from it—material and human—and ultimately sells its products and services to it. Any organization must pay its due in various ways to this important constituency. In this article, the authors have used the (...)

    Natural Environmental Responsibility in Indian Corporations: A Mixed-method Study.Shashank Shah - 2014 - Journal of Human Values 20 (2):129-151.
The world is going through unprecedented environmental crisis. The type of destruction and dissolution of natural resources and elements by individuals and institutions that has been witnessed in the last century is much more than that witnessed in the previous millennia. To tackle this, for more than three decades, a number of discussions have taken place at diverse international fora, and frameworks and propositions have been put forth for corporate implementation. Consequently, a perceptible change has come about in the understanding (...)

Proposing a Welfare Framework for the Society and Local Community Stakeholders: A Mixed Method Study.Shashank Shah - 2012 - Journal of Human Values 18 (1):53-71.
In India, society and social welfare has always been an important part of business and its broad objectives. From Merchant Charity to Corporate Citizenship, Corporate Social Responsibility has undergone a lot of change over the past many centuries. Whatever be the nomenclature, the objective remains the same—ensuring the welfare of the society and local community as an important stakeholder of an organization. While many companies use CSR as a strategic tool, many others undertake CSR activities for genuine altruism. In both (...)

Since the times of yore, the Indian culture has always laid importance on service to society as an important responsibility of the business/trader community. The society and local community is the resource pool from which any organization gets its manpower and also so to say ‘the license to operate’. The society is the entity to which an organization owes its existence. Any organization must pay its due in various ways to this important constituency. Though a number of models and frameworks (...)

Emerging contours of geopolitics and state in the digital era.Arun Teja Polcumpally, Megha Shrivastava & Shashank S. Patel - forthcoming - AI and Society:1-5.
This review essay provides a critical analysis of the book ‘The Great Tech Game,’ authored by Anirudh Suri. For the analysis, other literature published in a similar area is considered and pitched the arguments against the ones made in the book. During the year this book was released, there were numerous debates on accountability and trust in frontier digital technologies like AI. These debates have reached a systemic level where the entire global community is divided into two camps headed by (...)

On Ethical Violations in Microfinance Backed Small Businesses: Family and Household Welfare.Rahul Nilakantan, Deepak Iyengar, Samar K. Datta & Shashank Rao - 2020 - Journal of Business Ethics 172 (4):785-802.
The microfinance business model focuses largely on lending to the woman in the household, rather than the man. The belief is that women are more trustworthy borrowers than men, and that lending to women may have increased social impact. Yet in several cases, women do not have control over the loan backed business despite being the borrower of record. Such takeover of the business by the man constitutes an ethical violation. We find that high dependency ratios in the family are (...)

Human Rights, Southern Voices: Francis Deng, Abdullahi an-Na'im, Yash Ghai and Upendra Baxi.William Twining (ed.) - 2009 - Cambridge University Press.
A just international order and a healthy cosmopolitan discipline of law need to include perspectives that take account of the standpoints, interests, concerns and beliefs of non-Western people and traditions. The dominant scholarly and activist discourses about human rights have developed largely without reference to these other viewpoints. Claims about universality sit uneasily with ignorance of other traditions and parochial or ethnocentric tendencies. The object of the book is to make accessible the ideas of four jurists who present distinct 'Southern' (...)
