In diesem Zusammenhang setzt er sich mit Tendenzen auseinander, die derzeit in der Psychoanalyse im Umgang mit Traumata zu beobachten sind: Steht ein Trauma im Zentrum ihrer Aufmerksamkeit, tendierten Psychoanalytiker dazu, darin ein für ihre klinische Arbeit spezielles oder gar außergewöhnliches Problem zu sehen, das nach »etwas Anderem« als der grundlegenden Methode der Psychoanalyse verlangt. Demgegenüber wird die Auffassung vertreten, dass ein Trauma untrennbar mit dem Seelenleben verwoben (...) ist. So etwas wie eine nichttraumatische Psychopathologie, so der Autor, gibt es nicht. Jede traumatisierte Psyche, unabhängig von der Intensität des Traumas, stehe darum im Grunde vor demselben Problem: Wie lässt sich der grundsätzliche Mechanismus der Wiederholung überwinden und eine ergebnisoffene Symbolisierung erreichen? Immunological mechanisms and therapy approaches in psychotic syndromes were recently supported by the discovery of autoantibody-associated limbic and non-limbic encephalitis. However, how clinical diagnostic procedures in psychiatry should be adapted to these new insights is still unclear. In this study, we analyzed the cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) and neuroimmunological alterations and their association with cerebral MRI (cMRI) and electroencephalographic (EEG) findings. From 2006 until 2013, we acquired 180 CSF samples from psychotic patients. Between 2006 and 2009, CSF examinations were only performed (...) in cases in which organic brain disease was suspected. Since then, this procedure has been integrated into our routine diagnostic workup. CSF basic diagnostics were supplemented by measuring antineuronal antibodies against intracellular synaptic antigens, antibodies against intracellular onconeural antigens, antibodies against neuronal cell surface antigens and thyroid antibodies. In addition, cMRIs and EEGs were conducted. We found white cell counts elevated in 3.4% of the cases, albumin quotient elevated in 21.8%, and protein concentration elevated in 42.2%. Evidence of intrathecal immunoglobulin synthesis was found in 7.2% of the cases. Antibodies measured against neuronal cell surface antigens were positive in 3.2%. Reactivity on antibodies against intracellular onconeural antigens were detected in 3.5%. Serum thyroid antibodies were elevated in 24.7%. Abnormalities were found in 39.5% of cMRIs and in 34.3% of EEGs. The main finding of our study was the high prevalence of CSF and autoantibody abnormalities in 54.4% of psychotic patients. In combination with cMRIs and EEGs, 75.6% showed abnormal findings. Our results are discussed with regard to the concept of immunological encephalopathy. Future studies should analyze the efficacy of immunomodulatory therapies. (shrink)

The analysis of identity in cases of memory loss, particularly in Alzheimer’s disease, sheds light on relevant philosophical and practical concerns, such as decision-making processes, autonomy, and the improvement of interaction with patients. Literature on psychological continuity recognizes identity when there are no disruptions in memory, which is certainly not the case in Alzheimer´s disease. Narrative identity, particularly in its relational and non-relational versions, delivers tools which are not exempt from difficulties. Either the caregivers’ narrative or the patient’s narrative is (...) dismissed. Furthermore, if there is a contradiction of narratives in relational theories, we are advised to either find the best narrative or seek agreement. However, one option rejects one narrative, while the other is unattainable in practice for the case in question. Hence, we propose drawing from ironism (Rorty, 1989), which suggests duality of dialogues when dealing with problems. This will be used to defend that the narratives of both, a person with Alzheimer and those close to them, are valid when constituting identity of the former. In this case, we will articulate and defend relational ironism, which allows us to embrace inconsistent narratives without seeking agreements. According to this, personal identity in this case is in constant tension between the narratives of those who suffer Alzheimer’s disease and the narratives of those close to them. We close illustrating possible benefits for how best to interact with patients. (shrink)

Public surveys conducted in many countries report widespread willingness of individuals to donate a kidney while alive to a family member or close friend, yet thousands suffer and many die each year while waiting for a kidney transplant. Advocates of financial incentive programs or “regulated markets” in kidneys present the problem of the kidney shortage as one of insufficient public motivation to donate, arguing that incentives will increase the number of donors. Others believe the solutions lie—at least in part—in facilitating (...) so-called “altruistic donation;” harnessing the willingness of relatives and friends to donate by addressing the many barriers which serve as disincentives to living donation. Strategies designed to minimize financial barriers to donation and the use of paired kidney exchange programs are increasingly enabling donation, and now, an innovative program designed to address what has been termed “chronologically incompatible donation” is being piloted at the University of California, Los Angeles, and elsewhere in the United States. In this program, a person whose kidney is not currently required for transplantation in a specific recipient may instead donate to the paired exchange program; in return, a commitment is made to the specified recipient that priority access for a living-donor transplant in a paired exchange program will be offered when or if the need arises in the future. We address here potential ethical concerns related to this form of organ “banking” from living donors, and argue that it offers significant benefits without undermining the well-established ethical principles and values currently underpinning living donation programs. During dialog, references are presented, accepted, and potentially reused. Two experiments were conducted to examine reuse in a naturalistic setting. In Experiment 1, where the participants interacted face to face, self-presented references and references accepted through verbatim repetition were reused more. Such biases persisted after the end of the interaction. In Experiment 2, where the participants interacted over the phone, reference reuse mainly depended on whether the participant could see the landmarks being referred to, although this bias seemed to be (...) only transient. Consistent with the memory-based approach to dialog, these results shed light on how differences in accessibility in memory affect the unfolding of the interaction. (shrink)

Alors que la guerre était associée au masculin, quelques femmes en France ont combattu au cours des guerres civiles des XVIe-XVIIe siècles ou ont servi dans les armées royales, qu’accompagnaient de plus de nombreuses civiles. Avec la Révolution française, le service dans la garde nationale et, moins directement, dans l’armée est lié à la citoyenneté. En réclamant le port des armes au sein de la garde nationale, des militantes révolutionnaires revendiquaient ainsi un des droits politiques du citoyen, ce qui provoqua (...) un ferme refus. Mues par le désir de défendre la République et de partager avec les hommes la gloire de se battre pour elle, des citoyennes s’engagèrent par ailleurs individuellement dans les armées, où elles continuèrent à servir après le décret du 30 avril 1793 qui les en chassait. Les demandes d’armement des militantes et les réponses qui leur sont apportées, ainsi que les histoires, les propos des soldates et les réactions qu’elles ont suscitées permettent d’analyser l’association entre masculin, armes et citoyenneté et d’étudier les mécanismes de l’exclusion des femmes des armées. In response to Adam’s concern that when one tries to articulate a moral commitment, the commitment is ‘falsified,’ I examine the importance of a particular articulation in the process of moral development and look for a way to engage in this articulation, while avoiding the pitfalls Adams identified. Via the example of moral formation, and more specifically, exemplarity, I show the role of articulation in moral growth. Moreover, I attempt to show that partial and imperfect articulation can lead to moral (...) growth. For if this articulation is understood as inherently partial, it does not fall into the pitfall of ‘falsification,’ nor other well-known pitfalls in the process of moral formation through exemplarity. . We start from the geometrical-logical extension of Aristotle’s square in [6,15] and [14], and study them from both syntactic and semantic points of view. Recall that Aristotle’s square under its modal form has the following four vertices: A is □α, E is , I is and O is , where α is a logical formula and □ is a modality which can be defined axiomatically within a particular logic known as S5 (classical or intuitionistic, depending on whether is involutive (...) or not) modal logic. [3] has proposed extensions which can be interpreted respectively within paraconsistent and paracomplete logical frameworks. [15] has shown that these extensions are subfigures of a tetraicosahedron whose vertices are actually obtained by closure of by the logical operations , under the assumption of classical S5 modal logic. We pursue these researches on the geometrical-logical extensions of Aristotle’s square: first we list all modal squares of opposition. We show that if the vertices of that geometrical figure are logical formulae and if the sub-alternation edges are interpreted as logical implication relations, then the underlying logic is none other than classical logic. Then we consider a higher-order extension introduced by [14], and we show that the same tetraicosahedron plays a key role when additional modal operators are introduced. Finally we discuss the relation between the logic underlying these extensions and the resulting geometrical-logical figures. (shrink)

De nombreuses répliques du satyre à l'outre conservé au musée du Caire étaient connues jusqu'à présent, provenant d'Alexandrie, de Syracuse, de Kertch et de Phanagoria. Il convient de leur joindre un nouvel exemplaire fragmentaire du musée du Louvre provenant d'Amisos. Il est probable que nous ayons affaire dans chaque cas à une fabrication locale. Un passage des Dionysiaca de Nonnos de Panopolis (XXIII, 148) permet sans doute de voir dans cet objet un satyre voguant sur son outre : en effet (...) les fantassins de Dionysos sont décrits traversant l'Hydaspe, confluent de l'Indus, sur des outres gonflées d'air, mode de navigation connu par ailleurs. On peut supposer que le prototype était un satyre en bronze (peut-être un ornement de fontaine), créé sous l'influence pergaménienne, à la fin du IIIe s. ou au début du IIe s. av. J.-C. à Alexandrie, où l'expédition d'Alexandre aux Indes avait été transposée en une épopée de Dionysos. Suffisamment célèbre, il a pu donner lieu à des répliques en terre cuite, à la fois à Alexandrie, et dans divers centres liés à cette cité. (shrink)

To expand the project of Black mattering beyond race and physical death, this essay animates how body policing through school dress code policy sanctions racial-sexual violence and provide girls with an ultimatum: either abandon body sovereignty and self-expression, or accept the consequences of being (...) read as a distraction, a problem. membering classic Black feminist theory and the 2013 case of Vanessa Van Dyke, this essay locates these underrecognized facets of state violence as an extension of the #SayHerName project. Through a Black girlhood studies framework, the author underscores embodiment as an essential measure of justice and reframes mattering through the importance of Black girls’ crowns. (shrink)

Internships are part of a pedagogical system which is attracting more and more interest in Academia. This phenomenon may be explained by the fact that it would seem that they encourage the professionalization of studies and facilitate improved professional insertion of young graduates. This article falls in line with a research-work logic which has been led since 2006 in order to gain better understanding of the reality of internships, putting together sets of recommendations in order to improve their function. After (...) having demonstrated the limits of the efficiency of internships in terms of a response to graduates’ insertion difficulties which are linked to the employment system as opposed to the educational system, the present work describes the potential input of these internships from the point of view of education, socialization and professionalization. The paper is further concerned by the conditions that should be brought together so that a « good » internship may materialize these possibilities while warning against the major risks that the current inflation of internships is generating. La réforme de la formation en travail social au niveau des hautes écoles spécialisées en Suisse romande tend à gommer les spécificités des métiers historiques du travail social. Elle soulève, par conséquent, la question d’une identité professionnelle non plus liée au métier mais à un champ caractérisé par son hétérogénéité. Sur la base de rapports de formation pratique et de témoignages d’étudiant·es issus de l’analyse des pratiques, nous proposons, dans cette contribution, d’analyser la portée rhétorique du lien dans la constitution (...) d’une communauté de pratique et, par-là, d’une identité professionnelle rattachée à une appartenance au champ du travail social. Comment la transformation révolutionnaire du monde peut-elle être l'œuvre des hommes, c'est-à-dire le produit réel et conscient de leur histoire? Par l'usage de la dialectique en tant qu'elle constitue la méthode de la théorie pratique, c'est-à-dire le processus historique effectif par lequel la critique théorique se fait consubstantielle au renversement pratique, soit la transformation réelle et concrète du monde à l'origine de l'émancipation collective. La dialectique est donc la méthode propre à une science théorico-pratique, la science de l'histoire appelée pour (...) cette raison dialectique historiciste, et dont le modèle relève de l'art de la guerre, plus précisément de la stratégie militaire : science dont l'objet et le cœur ne sont pas la loi naturelle, mais la lutte politique. Understanding how meaning mechanisms are unleashed in film has been at the center of numerous theoretical surveys of the last few years. Emphasis has especially fallen on seeing as a constructive, meaningful activity and on the diegetic implications of vision. This book is an attempt to extend film theorizing into a new realm, where hearing proves as important as seeing and where the relevance of filmic narrative is differently explored. New paths for future research are suggested by means of associations (...) with the works of linguists or philosophers who have never addressed film theory directly in their writings. Nonetheless, several concepts posited by them (relevance, natural versus non-natural meaning or the notion of Mental spaces) find their application in the present survey. A wide range of examples starting with point-of-view and editing occurrences, passing through the use of music and sound and culminating with the study of whole filmic ensembles, enables the reader to re-examine code-bound or, on the contrary, deviational structures. These are often drawn from familiar sources, proving that not only art films of the Eisenstein or Godard type enhance innovative meaning spaces. Finally, the viewer is seen as a «silly little kitty», an active not passive receiver of textual structures who relies on patterns of known visual or aural backgrounds open to an unlimited field of perspectives. Cet article est consacré à l'analyse du destin d'une innovation portée par la société française Cytale, conceptrice du livre électronique Cybook commercialisé en 2001 et 2002. Il s'agit d'expliquer la raison qui amène Cytale à faire une proposition de lecture sur support électronique et numérique, puis de comprendre la nature et les causes de l'échec de cette innovation. Pour ce faire, l'article se focalise sur la construction de l'objet et de ses publics, ainsi que des réseaux que tenta de constituer (...) l'entreprise. Il est fait appel aux outils de la sociologie de la traduction, pour comprendre comment l'identité d'un objet technique, le Cybook, se construit, et comment ses fonctions lui sont assignées ou refusées. La réalisation de ce livre électronique apparaît comme le fruit d'une négociation plurielle, mais la solidité et la cohérence des alliances que Cytale était parvenue à sceller autour du Cybook posèrent question.This article is devoted to the analysis of the fate of an innovation brought by the French company Cytale, designer Cybook e-book sold in 2001 and 2002. This is to explain why that leads to a proposal Cytale reading electronic and digital, and to understand the nature and causes of the failure of this innovation. To do this, the article focuses on the construction of the object and its public and networks that tried to build the business. It is called the tools of sociology of translation, to understand how the identity of a technical object, Cybook, builds, and how its functions are assigned or denied. El Tesoro de la lengua castellana o española of Covarrubias covers up another treasure: a basic grammar of Arabic spread over the two hundred Arabic etymologies provided by the prominent Arabist, contemporary of the lexicographer, Diego de Urrea.Such is the subject of our study that will be devoted, thanks to linguistic analysis, to highlight in this corpus the explicit and implicit presence of numerous grammatical data that refer to fundamental rules of Arabic grammar such as the derivation system and the (...) morphonology of the verb. The presentation of this data in the Tesoro is made by an original terminology that can only be understood in the context of Arabic grammar and which is a true innovation in the field of Arab grammars composed by contemporary European Arabists. On the other hand, Urrea’s etymologies support the new “verbal root theory” introduced by Erpenius in his Grammatica Arabica, and therefore suggest his involvement in contemporary arabism. This study shed new light on the place of the Arabic language in the Tesoro of Covarrubias, a place that had remained, since the first modern reissue of the Tesoro in 1943, completely unnoticed by the research. It invites to see in the Tesoro an innovative work in the context of the new scientific interests that, from the end of the 16th century, would be directed towards the emergence of a new science: Orientalism.
