Este artigo se propõe a analisar o primeiro estágio do desenvolvimento da área de pesquisa em filosofia da psicanálise no Brasil, apresentando e descrevendo os trabalhos fundadores de seus pioneiros, produzidos entre a segunda metade dos anos 1970 e o início dos anos 1990. A seguir, ele discute e procura elucidar a ideia de uma “epistemologia da psicanálise” que domina este período inicial, propondo um conjunto de quatro argumentos para proporcionar uma visão mais sistemática de suas principais teses, a saber, (...) os argumentos analítico, defensivo, conciliatório e indutor. Freud's Project for a psychology presents a wide reflection on the concept of consciousness, which, in spite of certains difficulties, casts some light on how Freud then conceived the relations between consciousness, representation and language. The ontology developed by Merleau-Ponty in the final stage of his work is centered on the concept of flesh, giving this notion its most general scope by complementing the idea of “flesh of the body” with that of a “flesh of the world.” This paper seeks to evaluate the possibility of reading this philosophy of the flesh as a materialist ontology. For this purpose, the possibility is considered of interpreting the concept of flesh as a new figure of matter, despite (...) Merleau-Ponty’s claims that seem to preclude this interpretation. In concluding, the paper briefly discusses the potential contribution of this interpretation to approaching certain conceptual problems in contemporary science. It is argued that this approach can help to promote a more productive interchange between Merleau-Ponty’s fundamental thought and the philosophy of science. (shrink)

The aim of this paper is to show that Freud’s Conception of aphasia is the first step towards the framing of a doctrine of representation whose main features remain unchanged throughout the further developments of his work. The right comprehension of such a doctrine is a fundamental requirement in the study of Freud’s metapsychology conceived as a naturalistic science of the mind.

O conceito freudiano de "impulso", ou "instinto" (Trieb), é reconhecidamente um dos conceitos mais fundamentais da psicanálise. No entanto, seu sentido ainda é objeto de controvérsia. Originalmente definido por Freud em um sentido biológico ou quase biológico, sua recepção em muitas das diversas tradições pós-freudianas tendeu, frequentemente, a recusar essa filiação epistemológica inicial. Um dos sinais dessa reorientação doutrinária é a recusa da tradução de "Trieb" por "instinto" e a preferência pelo neologismo "pulsão", de origem francesa e comum na literatura (...) psicanalítica escrita em várias das línguas neolatinas, inclusive em português. O objetivo deste artigo é criticar essa tendência. Para tanto, são examinados os principais argumentos normalmente apresentados contra uma visão biológica do Trieb freudiano, a saber, 1) a alternativa terminológica entre os termos alemães "Trieb" e "Instinkt" e o modo como estes são utilizados por Freud; 2) a crítica freudiana de uma redução da sexualidade humana à função reprodutiva; 3) o conceito de "Todestrieb" ("instinto de morte" ou "pulsão de morte") formulado por Freud por volta de 1920 e central na etapa final de seu pensamento. Procura-se argumentar que essas formulações não impedem uma interpretação biológica do conceito de "Trieb". Essa interpretação, por sua vez, abre uma via de diálogo entre a psicanálise e a biologia, a qual é também enfática e explicitamente defendida por Freud. Esta primeira parte do trabalho introduz a questão e também aborda o problema da relação entre sexualidade e reprodução na psicanálise e na biologia. Uma segunda parte, a ser publicada em uma próxima edição de Scientiae Studia, será dedicada ao problema da agressividade e da autodestrutividade nessas duas áreas do conhecimento. It was originally defined by Freud in a biological or quasi-biological sense, but its reception in many different post-Freudian traditions has often tended to reject this early epistemological affiliation. One sign of this theoretical reorientation has been to refuse the translation of "Trieb" as "instinct" and to favor instead the neologism "pulsion" ("drive"), which has French origins and became common in the psychoanalytic literature written in many neo-Latin languages, including Portuguese. The objective of this paper is to criticize this trend. For that, the main arguments usually presented against a biological view of Freud's "Trieb" are discussed, namely: (1) the terminological alternative between the German words "Trieb" and "Instinkt" and how these terms are employed by Freud; (2) Freud's critique of the reduction of human sexuality to the reproductive function; (3) the concept of "Todestrieb" ("death instinct" or "death drive"), formulated by Freud around 1920 and central in the last stage of his thought. It is argued that these formulations do not preclude a biological interpretation of the concept of "Trieb". Such interpretation, in turn, opens the way for dialogue between psychoanalysis and biology, a dialogue which was also emphatically and explicitly supported by Freud. Este artigo se propõe a discutir as investigações iniciais de Lacan em torno da noção de sujeito, correlativas à eleição da psicose – principalmente a paranóia – como paradigma clínico para sua teoria.

Lacan é um psicanalista cujo intenso diálogo com a filosofia tornou-se um dos traços distintivos de seu pensamento, ao mesmo tempo, contudo, em que concorda com a recusa freudiana da filosofia e muitas vezes assume posições marcadamente antifilosóficas. Este artigo propõe-se a discutir essa aparente contradição e sugerir que o uso que Lacan faz de suas referências filosóficas talvez possa ser melhor compreendido no contexto de uma concepção sobre a natureza metafórica da teoria psicanalítica que subjaz à sua reconstrução da (...) psicanálise freudiana.Lacan is a psychoanalyst whose intensive dialogue with philosophy has become a distinctive feature of his thought. At the same time, however, he agrees with Freud's rejection of philosophy and takes often an accentuated antiphilosophical position. This paper sets out to discuss this seeming contradiction and suggests that Lacan's use of philosophical references may perhaps be best understood in the context of a metaphorical conception of psychoanalytic theory which underlies his reconstruction of Freudian psychoanalysis. Este artigo discute e contrapõe as leituras realistas e antirrealistas da metapsicologia freudiana. Para tanto, parte de um comentário da interpretação tipicamente antirrealista apresentada no livro O método especulativo de Freud, de Leopoldo Fulgencio. A seguir, discute a possibilidade alternativa de uma interpretação realista da metapsicologia, tomando por base alguns autores que assumem essa orientação e analisando algumas passagens da obra de Freud que parecem poder subsidiar essa leitura. Por fim, procura distinguir algumas implicações e consequências de ambas as leituras (...) para o modo como se concebe a natureza do conhecimento psicanalítico e o desenvolvimento futuro da psicanálise, em geral, e da metapsicologia, em particular.This paper discusses and compares the realist and antirealist readings of Freudian metapsychology. It starts with a commentary of a typically antirealist interpretation as presented in Leopoldo Fulgencio’s book, Freud’s speculative method. Next, it discusses the alternative possibility of a realist interpretation of metapsychology based on some other authors who sustain this point of view; it also comments on some passages of Freud’s work which seem to support this interpretation. Finally, it seeks to discern some consequences brought about by each one of these readings to the understanding of the future development of psychoanalysis and metapsychology. (shrink)

Within each of the great religions there is a well established doxastic practice (DP) of taking experiential inputs consisting of apparent direct perceptions of God (M experiences) as giving prima facie justification, subject to defeat by overriders supplied by that religion, for belief outputs that God exists and is as he presents himself. (This DP is abbreviated as "MP.") William Alston's primary aim in his excellent book, Perceiving God, is to establish that we have epistemic justification for believing that MPs (...) are reliable in that for the most part their belief outputs are true and moreover true of an objective or experience independent reality, unlike the belief outputs of the DPs based on sensations and feelings, along with the introspective DP whose intentional accusatives, although existing independently of being introspected, fail to be objective because they are themselves conscious states. Richard Swinburne presents a substantially rewritten and updated edition of his most celebrated book. No other work has made a more powerful case for the probability of the existence of God. This article outlines how the international push for inclusive education cannot be aligned with current education systems centred on neoliberal ideals of individualism, measurement, and competition. The way that these systems are organised means that a proportion of (usually marginalised) students are necessarily excluded. In order to meaningfully address the global education crisis, that sees millions of children and young people either out of school or unengaged with learning, this ontological misalignment must be acknowledged, and discourse and engagement around it (...) must be promoted. Drawing from the work of Donella Meadows, I argue that ‘high leverage points’ (information flows, rules, system goals, mindsets) are crucial places to intervene in education systems. Intervention at such points, while challenging, has the potential to lead to transformational and sustainable change; change that current ‘low leverage point’ initiatives fail to produce. I conclude with a call for further discourse and research into an examination of ‘high leverage points’ within education systems, how they interact, and how the development of an associated framework would be beneficial for researchers and development partners. Ducklings were placed either singly or in pairs on a platform at two different heights. Both height and pairing influenced performance: More ducklings descended from the platform at low heights, and more single ducklings descended than paired ducklings. The social factor, pairing, made behavior more cautious and decreased the number of distress calls. A similar trend for pairing to influence performance was shown on the visual cliff. Without its peers, the duckling is a distressed animal. The discussion of good and evil must not be confined to the sterile lecture halls of academics but related instead to ordinary human feelings, needs, and desires, says noted philosopher Richard Taylor. Efforts to understand morality by exploring human reason will always fail because we are creatures of desire as well. All morality arises from our intense and inescapable longing. The distinction between good and evil is always clouded by rationalists who convert the real problems of ethics into complex (...) philosophical puzzles. In the first part of Good and Evil, Taylor looks for a more meaningful conception by reexamining and rejecting the whole rationalistic tradition that dominates philosophical ethics. The second part provides an empirical explanation of good and evil, noting that one does not have to look too far to find prime examples of the failure of fixed moral rules.
