    Utopia: Reading and Redemption.Rabinovich Silvana - 2006 - Diogenes 53 (1):109-116.
This essay came about as the result of my suspicion that, in our societies of written traditions, the way we write and the thoughts we generate are intimately linked to the way we read. The practice of reading, in its many forms, is more than just a simple technique that allows us to familiarize ourselves with what other people think and thought: just as there exists a close relationship between the content and the form of a given text, the practice (...)

    Utopia: Reading and Redemption.Silvana Rabinovich - 2006 - Diogenes 53 (1):109-116.
This paper suggests an approach to the various possibilities of reading as a practice responsible for generating thought. It might be said that it is an approach to the dismissal of reading as the origin of other paths of thought. Utopia, understood as anticipation, yields its place to the figure of redemption (in Benjamin’s sense of the word) as imminence of the absolutely other, expectation and extreme attention. The text invites the reader to try other routes in the practice of (...)

Expressing cardinality quantifiers in monadic second-order logic over chains.Vince Bárány, Łukasz Kaiser & Alexander Rabinovich - 2011 - Journal of Symbolic Logic 76 (2):603 - 619.
We investigate the extension of monadic second-order logic of order with cardinality quantifiers "there exists uncountably many sets such that... " and "there exists continuum many sets such that... ". We prove that over the class of countable linear orders the two quantifiers are equivalent and can be effectively and uniformly eliminated. Weaker or partial elimination results are obtained for certain wider classes of chains. In particular, we show that over the class of ordinals the uncountability quantifier can be effectively (...)

On countable chains having decidable monadic theory.Alexis Bés & Alexander Rabinovich - 2012 - Journal of Symbolic Logic 77 (2):593-608.
Rationals and countable ordinals are important examples of structures with decidable monadic second-order theories. A chain is an expansion of a linear order by monadic predicates. We show that if the monadic second-order theory of a countable chain C is decidable then C has a non-trivial expansion with decidable monadic second-order theory.

    Dostoevsky and Mendeleev: An Antispiritist Dialogue.I. L. Volgin & V. L. Rabinovich - 1972 - Russian Studies in Philosophy 11 (2):170-194.
The sources of the real conflict between science and various kinds of undertakings in occultism pretending to be science date back to the end of the 16th and beginning of the 17th centuries, when modern scientific method was barely taking shape. The natural philosophy of the 16th century, which put forth natural magic in place of divine magic, was the ideological antipode of the new science in process of formation. The pantheistic reinterpretation of monotheistic Christian creationism is a characteristic feature (...)

Selection in the monadic theory of a countable ordinal.Alexander Rabinovich & Amit Shomrat - 2008 - Journal of Symbolic Logic 73 (3):783-816.
A monadic formula Ψ (Y) is a selector for a formula φ (Y) in a structure M if there exists a unique subset P of μ which satisfies Ψ and this P also satisfies φ. We show that for every ordinal α ≥ ωω there are formulas having no selector in the structure (α, <). For α ≤ ω₁, we decide which formulas have a selector in (α, <), and construct selectors for them. We deduce the impossibility of a full (...)

Tragic Victims of Mania a Potu (“Madness from Drink”): A Study of Literary Nineteenth-Century Female Drunkards.Irina Rabinovich - 2021 - Text Matters - a Journal of Literature, Theory and Culture 11:299-318.
Temperance literature, though widely popular in America and Britain between 1830–80, lost its allure in the decades that followed. In spite of its didactic and moralistic nature, the public eagerly consumed temperance novels, thus reciprocating contemporaneous writers’ efforts to promote social ideals and mend social ills. The main aim of this paper is to redress the critical neglect that the temperance prose written by women about women has endured by looking at three literary works—two novellas and one confessional novelette—written by (...)

An Innovative Way to Generate Hamiltonian Energy of a New Hyperchaotic Complex Nonlinear Model and Its Control.Kholod M. Abualnaja - 2020 - Complexity 2020:1-10.
We are implementing a new Rabinovich hyperchaotic structure with complex variables in this research. This modern system is a real, autonomous hyperchaotic, and 8-dimensional continuous structure. Some of the characteristics of this system, as well as for invariance, dissipation, balance, and stability, are technically analyzed. Some other properties are also studied numerically, such as Lyapunov exponents, Lyapunov dimension, bifurcation diagrams, and chaotic actions. Hamiltonian energy is being studied and applying by using the innovative method. Via active control method, we (...)

    Emmanuel Levinas.Danielle Cohen-Lévinas (ed.) - 1998 - Paris: PUF.

Automata and logics over finitely varying functions.Fabrice Chevalier, Deepak D’Souza, M. Raj Mohan & Pavithra Prabhakar - 2010 - Annals of Pure and Applied Logic 161 (3):324-336.
We extend some of the classical connections between automata and logic due to Büchi [5] and McNaughton and Papert [12] to languages of finitely varying functions or “signals”. In particular, we introduce a natural class of automata for generating finitely varying functions called ’s, and show that it coincides in terms of language definability with a natural monadic second-order logic interpreted over finitely varying functions Rabinovich [15]. We also identify a “counter-free” subclass of ’s which characterise the first-order definable (...)

On the Typology of Musical Perception.Dmitrii Alekseevich Dyatlov - 2022 - Philosophy and Culture (Russian Journal) 10:1-11.
Throughout the 20th century, the theory and history of performing arts repeatedly attempted to systematize various phenomena in the field of interpretation of works of academic music. The number of performing styles and types in various researches has risen dramatically, until the beginning of this century when it was reduced to a single concept - to the category of an individual style. This topic was discussed mainly in research papers devoted to the theory of pianism. The results of their observations (...)
