Decolonial Pedagogy Against the Coloniality of Justice.Nelson Maldonado-Torres, Xamuel Bañales, Leece Lee-Oliver, Sangha Niyogi, Albert Ponce & Zandi Radebe - 2023 - Educational Theory 73 (4):530-550.
This article explores the darker side of appeals to justice and social justice within liberal settings, particularly the US academy, where these terms are frequently mobilized to counter decolonial knowledge formations and aspirations. The authors draw from Frantz Fanon's critique of justice in colonial settings to demonstrate ways in which the coloniality of justice appears in the context of debates regarding the design and implementation of an Ethnic Studies requirement at the California State University and the California Community College Systems. Ukukhonza as an ethic-oriented ontology to ensure harmonious existence among AmaZulu.Nompumelelo Z. Radebe - 2023 - HTS Theological Studies 80 (2):6.
The production of knowledge should be premised on the inclusion of all epistemologies to provide possibilities to build a more just world. However, knowledge production, as we have it today, is premised on Western epistemology which is used to distil other knowledges before they could be accepted as legitimate. This approach stifles possibilities to find different ways of knowing that could contribute to imagining the world anew. There is a need, therefore, to unthink the West such that we find other (...)

In my professor’s eyes: Faculty and perceived impoliteness in student emails.Hamed Zandi & Iftikhar Haider - 2022 - Lodz Papers in Pragmatics 18 (1):197-222.
Impoliteness in student emails to faculty can have negative consequences. However, the nuances of perceived impoliteness by faculty with different language backgrounds have not been thoroughly studied in the literature. This paper explores how emails written by non-native English-speaking students are perceived impolite by faculty depending on social identity variables such as native speaker status, gender, and seniority. Participants read six emails and rated their perceptions of the emails on a questionnaire. The items on the questionnaire were about lack of (...)

The Perils and Strains of Teaching Race and Racism to Predominantly White Teacher Candidates.Bathseba Opini & Patrick Radebe - 2023 - Studies in Social Justice 17 (3):454-476.
This paper examines the overt and covert racism Black professors experience within the context of mainstream university teacher education programs. Informed by literature from Canadian sources and the authors’ personal experiences, the paper challenges the perception that Canadian postsecondary teacher education is amenable to honest, open and civil debates regarding racism. The common view of Canada as an inclusive and welcoming society needs re-examining given the degree of resistance encountered by racialized professors while teaching controversial topics, including racism and antiracism. The relationship between L2 motivation and transformative engagement in academic reading among EAP learners: Implications for reading self-regulation.Esmaeel Abdollahzadeh, Mohammad Amini Farsani & Maryam Zandi - 2022 - Frontiers in Psychology 13.
This study examined the relationship between L2 motivation and engagement in academic reading skill from the lenses of L2 motivational self-system and transformative experience. More specifically, following the transformative experience framework, we investigated the level of students’ engagement in academic reading skills inside and outside English classes. We also explored what motivational factors act as strong predictors of transformative experience and whether L2 motivation and engagement of students differ across different disciplines. Stratified purposive sampling was followed to recruit 419 undergraduate (...)

This original web-based database was developed at the University of Lausanne as part of the international research project “Drawings of gods”, which explores children's representations of supernatural agents. Its primary purpose is to store and organize data and metadata to be easily accessible to all affiliated researchers. However, anyone interested in the matter can view the drawings, as they were made publicly available. At present, our corpus is composed of over 5'100 drawings collected in different parts of the world and (...)
