Social bots – partially or fully automated accounts on social media platforms – have not only been widely discussed, but have also entered political, media and research agendas. However, bot detection is not an exact science. Quantitative estimates of bot prevalence vary considerably and comparative research is rare. We show that findings on the prevalence and activity of bots on Twitter depend strongly on the methods used to identify automated accounts. We search for bots in political discourses on Twitter, using (...) three different bot detection methods: Botometer, Tweetbotornot and “heavy automation”. We drew a sample of 122,884 unique user Twitter accounts that had produced 263,821 tweets contributing to five political discourses in five Western democracies. While all three bot detection methods classified accounts as bots in all our cases, the comparison shows that the three approaches produce very different results. We discuss why neither manual validation nor triangulation resolves the basic problems, and conclude that social scientists studying the influence of social bots on communication and discourse dynamics should be careful with easy-to-use methods, and consider interdisciplinary research. Scheler’s impact on Non-conformism points to an affinity between the phenomenology of affectivity and the antibourgeois movement in interwar France. Scheler himself calls on the vitalism of Guyau and Bergson to argue against projective concepts of empathy. He broadens affective situations into an interaction between bourgeois tendencies to narrow ressentiment and generous cultural dynamics. Non-conformists appropriate these modes of affectivity, pried from faith contexts. Jankélévitch transforms Scheler’s value ethic into an aggressive virtue ethic. Corbin draws from Scheler the inspiration for (...) a syncretistic anthropology of responsiveness. With reference to Scheler, Aron develops an ethic of value decisions that is free from ressentiment. We compare a “Mach-Zehnder interferometer in time” for cold neutrons with its well-known spatial counterpart and demonstrate the intimate connection between space and time for both setups. Further, we outline a combined space-time interferometer, which coherently splits a wavepacket in longitudinal and lateral direction. On the way towards time interferometry “neutron computer holography” seems to be an attractive application. It allows the three-dimensional reconstruction of an object from the scattered intensity, but in contrast to holography with light, there is no (...) need for a reference wave. On the other hand, the possible resolution is worse than in the light case. (shrink)
