Memórias, cinema e o fim do mundo: análise do filme Melancolia, de Lars von Trier.Rodrigo Follis Santos & Ana Paula Pirani - forthcoming - Horizonte:206105-206105.

Recognising values and engaging communities across cultures: towards developing a cultural protocol for researchers.Rakhshi Memon, Muqaddas Asif, Ameer B. Khoso, Sehrish Tofique, Tayyaba Kiran, Nasim Chaudhry, Nusrat Husain & Sarah J. L. Edwards - 2021 - BMC Medical Ethics 22 (1):1-8.
Efforts to build research capacity and capability in low and middle income countries (LMIC) has progressed over the last three decades, yet it confronts many challenges including issues with communicating or even negotiating across different cultures. Implementing global research requires a broader understanding of community engagement and participatory research approaches. There is a considerable amount of guidance available on community engagement in clinical trials, especially for studies for HIV/aids, even culturally specific codes for recruiting vulnerable populations such as the San (...)

A Note on the Problem of Proper Time in Weyl Space–Time.R. Avalos, F. Dahia & C. Romero - 2018 - Foundations of Physics 48 (2):253-270.
We discuss the question of whether or not a general Weyl structure is a suitable mathematical model of space–time. This is an issue that has been in debate since Weyl formulated his unified field theory for the first time. We do not present the discussion from the point of view of a particular unification theory, but instead from a more general standpoint, in which the viability of such a structure as a model of space–time is investigated. Our starting point is (...)

  9. Space–time philosophy reconstructed via massive Nordström scalar gravities? Laws vs. geometry, conventionality, and underdetermination.J. Brian Pitts - 2016 - Studies in History and Philosophy of Science Part B: Studies in History and Philosophy of Modern Physics 53:73-92.
What if gravity satisfied the Klein-Gordon equation? Both particle physics from the 1920s-30s and the 1890s Neumann-Seeliger modification of Newtonian gravity with exponential decay suggest considering a "graviton mass term" for gravity, which is _algebraic_ in the potential. Unlike Nordström's "massless" theory, massive scalar gravity is strictly special relativistic in the sense of being invariant under the Poincaré group but not the 15-parameter Bateman-Cunningham conformal group. It therefore exhibits the whole of Minkowski space-time structure, albeit only indirectly concerning volumes. Massive (...)

    World Enough and Space-Time.Steven F. Savitt - 1992 - Dialogue 31 (4):701-.
John Earman's new book,World Enough and Space-Time, is a brisk account of the controversy between space-time absolutists and relationists. The book is intended, one is told, to be “appropriate for use in an upper-level undergraduate or beginning graduate course in the philosophy of science”, but Earman's no-holds-barred approach to the mathematics of space-time theories will have bludgeoned most philosophical readers, undergraduate or beyond, into submission long before it is revealed that Pirani and Williams “have studied the integrability conditions for (...)

Inertia and Gravitation: The Fundamental Nature and Structure of Space-Time.Herbert Pfister - 2015 - Cham: Imprint: Springer. Edited by Markus King.
This book focuses on the phenomena of inertia and gravitation, one objective being to shed some new light on the basic laws of gravitational interaction and the fundamental nature and structures of spacetime. Chapter 1 is devoted to an extensive, partly new analysis of the law of inertia. The underlying mathematical and geometrical structure of Newtonian spacetime is presented from a four-dimensional point of view, and some historical difficulties and controversies - in particular the concepts of free particles and straight (...)

Tachyon kinematics and causality: A systematic thorough analysis of the tachyon causal paradoxes. [REVIEW]Erasmo Recami - 1987 - Foundations of Physics 17 (3):239-296.
The chronological order of the events along a spacelike path is not invariant under Lorentz transformations, as is well known. This led to an early conviction that tachyons would give rise to causal anomalies. A relativistic version of the Stückelberg-Feynman “switching procedure” (SWP) has been invoked as the suitable tool to eliminate those anomalies. The application of the SWP does eliminate the motions backwards in time, but interchanges the roles ofsource anddetector. This fact triggered the proposal of a host of (...)
