A Computer-Based Method for the Investigation of Human Behavior in the Iterative Chicken Game.Sung-Phil Kim, Minju Kim, Jongmin Lee, Yang Seok Cho & Oh-Sang Kwon - 2021 - Frontiers in Psychology 12.
The present study develops an artificial agent that plays the iterative chicken game based on a computational model that describes human behavior in competitive social interactions in terms of fairness. The computational model we adopted in this study, named as the self-concept fairness model, decides the agent’s action according to the evaluation of fairness of both opponent and self. We implemented the artificial agent in a computer program with a set of parameters adjustable by researchers. These parameters allow researchers to (...)

Effects of Emotional Stimulations on the Online Operation of a P300-Based Brain–Computer Interface.Minju Kim, Jongsu Kim, Dojin Heo, Yunjoo Choi, Taejun Lee & Sung-Phil Kim - 2021 - Frontiers in Human Neuroscience 15.
Using P300-based brain–computer interfaces in daily life should take into account the user’s emotional state because various emotional conditions are likely to influence event-related potentials and consequently the performance of P300-based BCIs. This study aimed at investigating whether external emotional stimuli affect the performance of a P300-based BCI, particularly built for controlling home appliances. We presented a set of emotional auditory stimuli to subjects, which had been selected for each subject based on individual valence scores evaluated a priori, while they (...)

The story of two connectives: Korean tunci ‘or’ and kena ‘or’.Minju Kim - 2021 - Discourse Studies 23 (4):497-518.
Using 129 natural conversations and 185 episodes of television drama conversations as well as the theoretical frameworks of usage-based theory and grammaticalization, I investigate two forms of ‘or’ in Korean, tunci and kena. Generally believed to be largely interchangeable, these two forms’ actual usages have never been compared. I demonstrate that the two are selectively used in conversation, and propose that three types of factor influence the selection. The first factors are genre and setting. In formal settings and formal descriptive (...)

Women’s talk, mothers’ work: Korean mothers’ address terms, solidarity, and power.Minju Kim - 2015 - Discourse Studies 17 (5):551-582.
This study analyzes 400 minutes of natural conversations between Korean married women and investigates their interactions with focus on their use of address terms to index closeness. In particular, it examines the emergence of the female solidarity term caki ‘you’, and demonstrates solidarity’s entailment of power. Traditionally, Korean women with children have been addressed by reference to their children’s names even by her friends. Caki, which allows friends to directly address each other, has become a popular alternative, indicating solidarity. In (...)

Sport Community Involvement and Life Satisfaction During COVID-19: A Moderated Mediation of Psychological Capital by Distress and Generation Z.Juho Park, Jun-Phil Uhm, Sanghoon Kim, Minjung Kim, Shintaro Sato & Hyun-Woo Lee - 2022 - Frontiers in Psychology 13.
How can sport community involvement influence life satisfaction during a pandemic? Self-expansion theory posits that individuals seek to gain resources such as positive interpersonal relationships for growth and achievement. By considering psychological capital as a dispositional resource intervening between sport community involvement and life satisfaction, we examined an empirical model to test the chain of effects. Based on the stress process model, distress and generational group were tested as moderators. Participants responded to the scale item questionnaire for model assessment. Supporting (...)
