    On Reflecting and Making in Artistic Research.Maarit Mäkelä, Nithikul Nimkulrat, D. P. Dash & Francois-X. Nsenga - 2011 - Journal of Research Practice 7 (1):Article E1.
Following the integration of artistic disciplines within the university, artists have been challenged to review their practice in academic terms. This has become a vigorous epicentre of debates concerning the nature of research in the artistic disciplines. The special issue "On Reflecting and Making in Artistic Research Practice" captures some of this debate. This editorial article presents a broad-brush outline of the debates raging in the artistic disciplines and presents three discernible trends in those debates. The trends highlight different core (...)

Exploring Ecological and Material Sensitivity through Craft Practice in the Context of the Venice Lagoon.Riikka Latva-Somppi & Maarit Mäkelä - 2020 - Aisthesis. Pratiche, Linguaggi E Saperi Dell’Estetico 13 (1):31-46.
This article discusses multisensorial aesthetic experience of environmental materiality via a craft process. The locally situated study investigates the interrelations of humans and environment through soil. In focus is how craft practitioners use their material sensitivity to reflect the idea of interdependency in the context of the contemporary environmental discourse. This is done through presenting an artistic research project in which craft is used to explore the human imprint in a particular geological environment, the Venice Lagoon. The case study Traces (...)

Closeness, Conflict, and Culturally Inclusive Pedagogy: Finnish Pre- and In-service Early Education Teachers’ Perceptions.Wenwen Yang, Eero Laakkonen & Maarit Silvén - 2022 - Frontiers in Psychology 13.
This study explored the factorial and concurrent validity of a scale developed for assessing teachers’ self-efficacy beliefs in engaging with diversity in early childhood education settings. According to tests of measurement invariance, the conceptualization of the constructs varied to some extent between Finnish student teachers and qualified teachers. Qualified teachers reported, at the item level, higher confidence in engaging with diversity in mainstream early childhood classrooms than student teachers. Structural equation modeling demonstrated that for both groups, higher levels of reported (...)

The Scope of Serious Crime and Preventive Justice.Tom Sorell - 2016 - Criminal Justice Ethics 35 (3):163-182.
I first offer an account of serious crime that goes beyond victimizing crimes committed by individuals against other individuals. This approach extends the well-known framework offered by von Hirsch and Jareborg that relates seriousness of crime to different standards of living that can be enjoyed by victims of crime as the result of crime. The revised account of serious crime is then related to the idea of preventing serious crime by the introduction of offences consisting of steps in the (...)

Hobbes on serious crime.Tom Sorell - 2018 - In Hobbesian Applied Ethics and Public POlicy. Routledge.
Hobbesian resources can remedy limitations in the standard classification of serious crimes due to Jareborg and Von Hirsch. In particular, they can help the standard theory to accommodate serious crime in the form of undermining valuable public institutions. Examples of such crimes are bribery of judges and large-scale fraudulent claims on welfare state provisions.
