Male Mating Expectations in Brazilian and American Samples.Felipe Nalon Castro, Wallisen Tadashi Hattori, Steven J. C. Gaulin, Maria Emília Yamamoto & Fívia de Araújo Lopes - 2021 - Frontiers in Psychology 12.
This study aims to investigate assortative mating based on mate value from male perspective. Male participants (132 Brazilian and 106 American) evaluated hypothetical “stimulus” males described in terms of physical attractiveness, social skills, and social status (each varied in high or low levels). Participants rated each stimulus and each stimulus' preferred mating partner on nine traits. The results showed that (1) positive assortative mating was expected in romantic relationships; (2) the stimulus ratings did not vary independently, suggesting that mate value (...)

Expression of glycoconjugates during development of the vertebrate nervous system.Gerald A. Schwarting & Miyuki Yamamoto - 1988 - Bioessays 9 (1):19-23.
There is increasing evidence that carbohydrate antigens act as cell recognition molecules in the highly organized structure of the nervous system. These carbohydrate antigens may be expressed as glycolipids, glycoproteins or proteoglycans, and in some cases all three forms of these glycoconjugates, expressing identical carbohydrate epitopes, can be detected in a specific brain region. This article summarizes recent studies concerning the expression of glycoconjugates during development of the vertebrate central nervous system. These findings are discussed in association with current models (...)

Placing Physical Restraints on Older People with Dementia.Miwa Yamamoto & Yoko Aso - 2009 - Nursing Ethics 16 (2):192-202.
This study aimed to clarify the coping strategies of nurses working in general wards who face the ethical dilemma of restraining older people with dementia. The participants were 272 nurses working in general wards in the Kansai region of Japan. Coping strategies were measured using a questionnaire consisting of 16 items. A low score of 1—4 points suggested good coping strategies. Factors were difficult to interpret for three of the 16 coping items identified; these items were therefore deleted. Eleven of (...)

The tendency of educational thought of “the ancient studies” in the Edo Confucianism: A focus on the thought differences between Ito Jinsai and Ogyu Sorai.Masami Yamamoto - 2022 - Educational Philosophy and Theory 54 (7):1014-1021.
Traditionally, the genealogy of Edo Confucianism, that is, Confucianism reinterpreted and reconstructed in the Tokugawa period, has been classified into the Chu-Hsi, Wang Yang-ming, Ancient, and Eclectic schools. These classifications are based on the most representative Confucian theories in the Tokugawa period and are useful for understanding their genealogy. However, when we try to capture the substance of Confucian thought from the interest of “education,” it is very difficult to understand the differences of each school’s educational thought based on this (...)

What Time is not.M. Yamamoto - 1975 - In J. T. Fraser & Nathaniel M. Lawrence (eds.), The Study of Time Ii. Springer. pp. 231-238.
The title of my paper may look odd. If one is questioned “What is a dog?”, everyone could give a more or less valid answer. But to the question “What is not a dog?”, there can be innumerable answers which may be correct, but mostly quite unhelpful. Provisionally, what I intend to do under this title is to consider what we should not hold time to be. Through the history of ideas we meet various opinions and theories concerning what time (...)

Holistic approach for problem improvement in health education: A human centred basis. A case study on AIDS prevention and control at a Chinese medical school. [REVIEW]Ning Wei, Bing Zhang, Tao Li, Abdul Fattah & Miyuki Yamamoto - 1998 - AI and Society 12 (4):264-286.
In order to cope with the changing health needs in the community, an holistic approach on AIDS prevention and control with particular reference to essential quality was introduced at an educational seminar at Hebei Medical University in China, 1996. We have identified three major points in the present study through learning and research process: 1. The importance of ‘cultural norm’ for the unification of science and technology is identified for the community approach; 2. ‘community care’ emphasising human quality provides unity (...)
