Ein Modell zur Prognose des sportlichen Erfolgs in der Fußball-Bundesliga / Α Model to Forecast Team Performance in Germany’s First Soccer Division.Jan Peter Korthals, Tariq Hasan & Helmut M. Dietl - 2005 - Sport Und Gesellschaft 2 (3):275-295.

  9. Chinese Perspectives on Free Will.Christian Helmut Wenzel & Marchal Kai - 2017 - In Kevin Timpe, Meghan Griffith & Neil Levy (eds.), Routledge Companion to Free Will. New York: Routledge. pp. 374-388.
The problem of free will as it is know in Western philosophical traditions is hardly known in China. Considering how central the problem is in the West, this is a remarkable fact. We try to explain this, and we offer insights into discussions within Chinese traditions that we think are related, not historically but regarding the issues discussed. Thus we introduce four central Chinese concepts, namely: (1) xīn 心 (heart, heart-mind), (2) xìng 性 (human nature, characteristic tendencies, inborn capacity), (3) (...)

    Deduction and Historical Explanation.Paul J. Dietl - 1968 - History and Theory 7 (2):167-188.
Neither strict deduction nor high expectability is a necessary condition for historical explanation. Explanations that separate history from mere narrative are necessary, but deduction from causes is not a priori the only source. Explanations in terms of reasons, emotions, and motives of actors are essential and are satisfactory when an agent's reason for an action is made convincing and believable. The principle of action must make evident the appeal of some human good in the action with which we can empathize (...)

Snyder and Habermas on the war in Ukraine: a critical discourse analysis of elite media discourse in Germany.Helmut Gruber - forthcoming - Critical Discourse Studies.
This article presents a critical qualitative study of two opinion articles, written by two eminent scholars (Jürgen Habermas and Timothy Snyder), on the German government’s hesitant arms supply for Ukraine during the first phase of the Russian war of aggression in 2022. The main aim of the article is the uncovering of the discursive practices of critique performed by two major public intellectuals. This case study thus allows insights into the simplistic representation of the Russo-Ukrainian war in German elite media (...)

Artushof Und Artusliteratur.Matthias Däumer, Cora Dietl & Friedrich Wolfzettel (eds.) - 2010 - De Gruyter.
The court of King Arthur, the center of the Arthurian romances that were so popular in the Middle Ages, is illuminated anew in this book from an interdisciplinary perspective as an institution which is fictionally staged, stabilized and problematized. The book explores the forces, figures and positions that constitute or endanger the court as a picture of society in miniature or as a literary experiment. Finally, the contributions critically question the ideality of the court of King Arthur and investigate the (...)
