Experiences of Discrimination and Everyday Racism Among Children and Adolescents With an Immigrant Background – Results of a Systematic Literature Review on the Impact of Discrimination on the Developmental Outcomes of Minors Worldwide.Franka Metzner, Adekunle Adedeji, Michelle L.-Y. Wichmann, Zernila Zaheer, Lisa Schneider, Laura Schlachzig, Julia Richters, Susanne Heumann & Daniel Mays - 2022 - Frontiers in Psychology 13.
Experiences of discrimination such as everyday racism can negatively affect the mental and physical health of children and adolescents with an immigrant background and impair their integration process in the host societies. Although experiences of racism are part of the everyday life of many minors affected by the process of “Othering”, an overview of empirical findings is missing for this age group worldwide. A systematic review was conducted to identify and analyze international research on the impact of discrimination on the (...)

The Importance of Reading Naturally: Evidence From Combined Recordings of Eye Movements and Electric Brain Potentials.Metzner Paul, von der Malsburg Titus, Vasishth Shravan & Rösler Frank - 2017 - Cognitive Science 41 (S6):1232-1263.
How important is the ability to freely control eye movements for reading comprehension? And how does the parser make use of this freedom? We investigated these questions using coregistration of eye movements and event‐related brain potentials (ERPs) while participants read either freely or in a computer‐controlled word‐by‐word format (also known as RSVP). Word‐by‐word presentation and natural reading both elicited qualitatively similar ERP effects in response to syntactic and semantic violations (N400 and P600 effects). Comprehension was better in free reading but (...)

Pride, Prejudice and paranoia: Dismantling the Ideology of domination.Ralph Metzner - 1998 - World Futures 51 (3):239-267.
A comparison is made, pointing out the parallels, between five systems of domination?racism, sexism, classism, nationalism and speciesism (the human domination of nature). In each of these, one group of (human) beings asserts its superiority over another group and thereby seems to justify the domination, exploitation and abuse of the oppressed group. An analytical model is then presented that traces the psychological development of domination behavior through four stages: (1) perception of difference and group identification, (2) pride and self?affirmation, (3) (...)

It is shown that the existence of d-wave superconductivity in the two-dimensional Hubbard model close to half-filling can be inferred from a renormalization group analysis at one-loop level.

Doing Modernity - Doing Religion.Anna Daniel, Franka Schäfer, Frank Hillebrandt & Hanns Wienold (eds.) - 2012 - Wiesbaden: Springer VS.

It is shown that certain kinds of behavior, which hitherto were expected to be characteristic for classical gravity and quantum field theory in curved spacetime, as the infinite dimensional Bondi-Metzner-Sachs symmetry, holography on event horizons and an area proportionality of entropy, have in fact an unnoticed presence in Minkowski QFT.This casts new light on the fundamental question whether the volume proportionality of heat bath entropy and the (logarithmically corrected) dimensionless area law obeyed by localization-induced thermal behavior are different geometric (...)

Nietzsche und die Tiefenpsychologie ed. by Roman Lesmeister and Elke Metzner.Gaia Domenici - 2016 - Journal of Nietzsche Studies 47 (1):167-169.
Nietzsche calls himself a “psychologist [Psychologe]” in a few passages of his published works. Furthermore—and mainly due to his intense interest in the scientific debates of his time, which involved figures such as Hartmann, Schopenhauer, Gerber, Helmholtz, and Zöllner—Nietzsche’s early philosophical thought can be regarded as clearly “permeated” by his concern with the unconscious. The combination of psychology and this concern with the unconscious..

Worldviews and Ecology.Mary Evelyn Tucker & John A. Grim (eds.) - 1994 - Orbis Books.
Amidst the many voices clamoring to interpret the environmental crisis, some of the most important are the voices of religious traditions. Long before modernity's industrialism began the rape of Earth, premodern religious and philosophical traditions mediated to untold generations the wisdom of living as a part of nature. These traditions can illuminate and empower wiser ways of postmodern living. The original writings of Worldviews and Ecology creatively present and interpret worldviews of major religious and philosophical traditions on how humans can (...)

The main topics of this second part of a two-part essay are some consequences of the phenomenon of vacuum polarization as the most important physical manifestation of modular localization. Besides philosophically unexpected consequences, it has led to a new constructive “outside-inwards approach” in which the pointlike fields and the compactly localized operator algebras which they generate only appear from intersecting much simpler algebras localized in noncompact wedge regions whose generators have extremely mild almost free field behavior. -/- Another consequence of (...)

W pracy dyskutujemy epistemologiczne funkcje paradoksów w kosmologii.
