  1. Fraudulent participation in psychological research using virtual synchronous interviews: ethical challenges and potential solutions.Kaitlyn McLachlan, Emma E. Truffyn, Bianka Dunleavy, Delane Linkiewich, Deborah Powell, Anna Taddio & C. Meghan McMurtry - forthcoming - Ethics and Behavior.
Online research offers advantages including recruitment cost, diminished equity-related participation barriers, and convenience; however, there are growing concerns regarding fraudulent participation. Guidance to navigate these challenges exists for online research generally (e.g. surveys), but remains sparse for the specific challenge of fraudulent participation within virtual synchronous interviews. No work has explored this topic within an explicit, detailed ethical framework. Reflecting on our experiences navigating fraudulent participation in virtual synchronous research, we address this gap using the Canadian Code of Ethics for (...)

    Decisions.Delan Devakumar - 2012 - Clinical Ethics 7 (1):7-9.
The decision about whether to have a termination of pregnancy, particularly in light of a potentially unwell child, is a very difficult one. The following represents two separate accounts of the same event giving the individual thoughts of both parents confronted with this dilemma. They can be read simultaneously or consecutively or a mixture of the two.

  5. Taking ethical photos of children for medical and research purposes in low-resource settings: an exploratory qualitative study. [REVIEW]Delan Devakumar, Helen Brotherton, Jay Halbert, Andrew Clarke, Audrey Prost & Jennifer Hall - 2013 - BMC Medical Ethics 14 (1):27.
Photographs are commonly taken of children in medical and research contexts. With the increased availability of photographs through the internet, it is increasingly important to consider their potential for negative consequences and the nature of any consent obtained. In this research we explore the issues around photography in low-resource settings, in particular concentrating on the challenges in gaining informed consent.

The human dimensions of water saving irrigation: lessons learned from Chinese smallholder farmers.Morey Burnham, Zhao Ma & Delan Zhu - 2015 - Agriculture and Human Values 32 (2):347-360.
Water saving irrigation is promoted as a strategy to mitigate future water stresses by the Chinese government and irrigation scientists. However, the dissemination of WSI in China has been slow and little is understood with respect to why farmers adopt WSI or how WSI interacts with the social and institutional contexts in which it is embedded. By analyzing qualitative data from 37 semi-structured and 56 unstructured interviews across 13 villages in northwest China, this paper examines smallholder farmers’ knowledge and perceptions (...)
