If the Old Three Classes Culture Heat is to expand in an ideal healthy manner, it is most important to prevent the occurrence of artificial" heat creation." Academically, however, in-depth studies that accommodate a wide range of opinions should be initiated and entered into the list of routine topics for specialized cultural research. In 1998, I spent three months in Tunisia studying Arabic and taking a much-needed holiday from my Ph. D. studies. An Australian woman of mixed heritage (including Cherokee Indian), my multilingualism, physical smallness, black hair and eyes, and yellow-toned skin allow me to blend in, or at least to defy categorisation, in a range of cultures. As a woman travel-ling alone in that region, I attracted an inordinate amount of attention but was also, perhaps due to my liminal status as an anomaly, privy to some insightful confessions and revelations from Tunisians and Algerians I met there. [REVIEW]A. Pursuing justice: [traditional and contemporary issues in our communities and the world].Ralph A. Weisheit - 2014 - Boston: Elsevier. Edited by Frank Morn.
Pursuing Justice, Second Edition, examines the issue of justice by considering the origins of the idea, formal systems of justice, current global issues of justice, and ways in which justice might be achieved by individuals, organizations, and the global community. Part 1 demonstrates how the idea of justice has emerged over time, starting with religion and philosophy, then moving to the justice as a concern of the state, and finally to the concept of social justice. Part 2 outlines the very (...)

The Aga Khan Cultural Foundation’s International Program for Islamic Architecture has also prioritized the understanding of the success drivers in architectural projects. This study aimed to detect the potentials of the common global indicators to access qualitative design assessment through analyzing the Aga Khan Award’s reports. Contemporary Art, Democracy, and the State.George Walden - 2000 - Royal Institute of Philosophy Supplement 45:85-95.
Not long before the change of Government in Britain in 1997, the then Heritage Secretary, Virginia Bottomley, made a speech in which she praised British contemporary art, describing it as the most exciting and innovatory in the world. Unexciting as it seemed, her observation was profoundly innovatory, indeed in its small way historic. To my knowledge no British Cabinet Minister, still less a Conservative, has ever given an official seal of approval to what is conventionally regarded as avant-garde art. (...)

In recent years, Nietzsche’s views on (natural) science attracted a considerable amount of scholarly attention. Overall, his attitude towards science tends to be one of suspicion, or ambivalence at least. My article addresses the “Nietzsche and science” theme from a slightly different perspective, raising a somewhat different type of question, more pragmatic if you like, namely: how to be a Nietzschean philosopher of science today? What would the methodological contours of a Nietzschean approach to present-day research areas (such as neuroscience, (...)

Contemporary thought and politics.Ernest Gellner - 1974 - Boston,: Routledge and Kegan Paul.
Gellner's political philosophy in these volumes combines the down-to-earth realism of political sociology with a rational treatment of the normative issues of traditional political thought. In these essays Gellner strives to understand the religions of nationalism, communism and democracy, returning again and again to the basic values of the liberal: social tolerance, rational criticism, human decency and justice.

This paper intends to analyze how Aristotle develops the argument that connects justice and law; for this task, the books I and II of his Politics will be analyzed, since these texts offer us a more direct understanding of the central issue that will be developed here. Since Aristotle also deals with this fundamental theme in books II and V of the Nicomachean Ethics, visiting important passages of this work will also be necessary. Therefore, the hypothesis to be developed in (...)

Postcolonial discourse is incredibly diverse and postcolonial art in Australia has numerous critical modes. This paper describes an approach in Contemporary Indigenous art that attempts a critique of the law from within the law rather than outside of it. It takes a radical form of over-proximity, rather than avant-garde distance, and finds the gap and failure in law’s attempt at creating legal subjects of us all. In the work of Gordon Bennett, Danie Mellor and the duo Adam Geczy and (...)

Mix & Stir', this book's aim is an endeavour to understand art as being a panhuman phenomenon of all times and cultures; to steer away from the persistent Eurocentric/Western-centric viewpoint towards a transcultural and transnational interconnected model of exchange and processes of interculturalization. Mix & Stir wants to expand this landscape by bringing to the fore new, recalcitrant, queer, idiosyncratic practices and discourses, theories and topics, methods and concerns that open up ways to approach art from a global perspective. Analogous (...)

Living out of silence, out of a fully functioning, lovingly attentive mind, and not just out of thought, out of a partially functioning mind, is requisite for depth or profundity in living or relating. A fully attentive, truly silent or meditative mind sees that there is real dualism of time and the timeless and that time and the timeless each has its own unique value. The timeless, or real silence, that which alone can make for depth in one's living and (...)
