"Prufrock" between Acquaintance and Description: Bertrand Russell and T. S. Eliot.Maya Kronfeld - 2023 - Philosophy and Literature 47 (1):167-183.
Abstract:This article recovers a submerged philosophical debate between Bertrand Russell's theory of descriptions and T. S. Eliot's "Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock." Russell's concern with immediate experience ("acquaintance") underscores a dilemma troubling literary modernism generally and modernist abstraction in particular. In "Prufrock," acquaintance with reality marks an epistemic failure whose social form is the "etherization" gripping the city and everything in it. The conversation between Russell's philosophy and Eliot's poetry is grounded in but exceeds the men's real-life acquaintance. Rather (...)

An Exploration of Religious Gender Differences amongst Jewish-American Emerging Adults of Different Socio-Religious Subgroups.Chana Etengoff - 2011 - Archive for the Psychology of Religion 33 (3):371-391.
This article explores gender differences in the religious experiences of 416 Jewish emerging adults . Prior research has indicated that women are more religious than men cross-culturally. The purpose of this study was to investigate if such gender differences remain applicable to Jewish-American emerging adults given both the changing role of women in society and emerging adults’ prolonged search for identity. Findings reveal that most gender differences in the religious values and experiences of Jewish-American emerging adults are statistically insignificant and (...)

    Liberty: God's Gift to Humanity.Chana B. Cox - 2006 - Lexington Books.
Liberty: God's Gift to Humanity is a defense of liberalism, the political philosophy which holds that governments should be established for the protection of individual liberty. By means of revisiting the thinking of the men who created liberal theory over the past three centuries, author Chana Cox has demonstrated that historically the bond between liberalism and religion has been strong and that liberals have embraced virtue, encouraged social control, and increased the common good.

Reflections on the Logic of the Good.Chana B. Cox - 2007 - Lexington Books.
Reflections on the Logic of the Good provides a metaphysical and philosophical foundation for those who argue against micromanagement of the individual, the economy, and society. In doing so, it offers a defense of the open mind, the open society, and the open universe. What emerges is a defense of ethical pluralism without relativism, and an entirely general invisible hand theory entrenched not only in the nature of man but also in the nature of nature.

Reference and computation: an essay in applied philosophy of language.Amichai Kronfeld - 1990 - New York: Cambridge University Press.
This book deals with a major problem in the study of language: the problem of reference. The ease with which we refer to things in conversation is deceptive. Upon closer scrutiny, it turns out that we hardly ever tell each other explicitly what object we mean, although we expect our interlocutor to discern it. Amichai Kronfeld provides an answer to two questions associated with this: how do we successfully refer, and how can a computer be programmed to achieve this? (...)

    Intersecções entre a história e a geo-história: a arte enquanto observatório do Antropoceno.Chana De Moura - 2021 - Cadernos PET-Filosofia (Parana) 19 (1).

Can a Brief Interaction With Online, Digital Art Improve Wellbeing? A Comparative Study of the Impact of Online Art and Culture Presentations on Mood, State-Anxiety, Subjective Wellbeing, and Loneliness.MacKenzie D. Trupp, Giacomo Bignardi, Kirren Chana, Eva Specker & Matthew Pelowski - 2022 - Frontiers in Psychology 13.
When experienced in-person, engagement with art has been associated—in a growing body of evidence—with positive outcomes in wellbeing and mental health. This represents an exciting new field for psychology, curation, and health interventions, suggesting a widely-accessible, cost-effective, and non-pharmaceutical means of regulating factors such as mood or anxiety. However, can similar impacts be found with online presentations? If so, this would open up positive outcomes to an even-wider population—a trend accelerating due to the current COVID-19 pandemic. Despite its promise, this (...)

HEIDELBERG MATURATION: phenomenological critique of psychoanalysis.Yehor Butsykin - 2020 - Filosofska Dumka (Philosophical Thought) 4:60-75.
This article attempts to historically reconstruct the phenomenological critique of psychoanalysis in order to establish a new framework of understanding psychoanalytic theory and practice, given the need for a new phenomenological justification of psychoanalysis as a special intersubjective experience of the analyst-analysand interaction. At the beginning of the twentieth century, a number of phenomenologically oriented psy- chotherapies emerged within Western psychiatry. All of them were more or less influenced or exist in polemics with psychoanalytic teaching and relied primarily on phenomenology (...)

Exploratory notes on employee productivity and accountability in classic Jewish sources.David J. Schnall - 1993 - Journal of Business Ethics 12 (6):485-491.
Jewish tradition has a long-standing commitment to justice, equity and compassion toward society's most vulnerable members, including its working-class. It has produced a substantial literature describing appropriate practice in business relations and the ethics of the marketplace. Less well-known, however, are its prescriptions for employee productivity and accountability. These elements are considered here within the context of contemporary organization, and with particular application to the school of quality management associated with W. Edwards Demings. This paper is an expanded version of the (...)

What are referring expressions? How do we recognize them?Stig W. Jørgensen - 1998 - Pragmatics and Cognition 6 (1):99-120.
The term 'referring expression' is often used without definition, and models of referring usually ignore the question of how NP's are recognized as referring expressions in discourse. In this paper, I review some relevant distinctions from the research in generics and, on that basis, provide a definition of referring expressions as specific and non-kind-referring noun phrases. I discuss some complications to the definition. Using Kronfeld's model of referring as my framework, I discuss the interaction of the recognition of referring (...)
