Building on our diverse research traditions in the study of reasoning, language and communication, the Polish School of Argumentation integrates various disciplines and institutions across Poland in which scholars are dedicated to understanding the phenomenon of the force of argument. Our primary goal is to craft a methodological programme and establish organisational infrastructure: this is the first key step in facilitating and fostering our research movement, which joins people with a common research focus, complementary skills and an enthusiasm to work (...) together. This statement—the Manifesto—lays the foundations for the research programme of the Polish School of Argumentation. (shrink)

The logic of acceptance and rejection (AEL2) is a nonmonotonic formalism to represent states of knowledge of an introspective agent making decisions about available information. Though having much in common, AEL2 differs from Moore's autoepistemic logic (AEL) by the fact that the agent not only can accept or reject a given fact, but he/she also has the possibility not to make any decision in case he/she does not have enough knowledge.

In the paper we focus upon the problem of derivability of rulesfrom rule complexes. The notion of a rule complex is the main mathematicalnotion of generalized game theory . Derivability of rules, asdefined here, comprises the concept of an extension from a default theory [9]as well as the classical notion of derivability of rules in logic. The idea oflocalness of reasoning, reasoning with a limited access to rules, is realizedby the concept of relative derivability. The problems we deal with concern reasoning about incomplete knowledge. Knowledge is understood as ability of an ideal rational agent to make decisions about pieces of information. The formalisms we are particularly interested in are Moore's autoepistemic logic (AEL) and its variant, the logic of acceptance and rejection (AEL2). It is well-known that AEL may be seen as the nonmonotonic KD45 modal logic. The aim is to give an appropriate modal formalization for AEL2.

In our approach credibility of information plays an importantrole in modeling of both belief state and belief change [4]. It turns out thatthe credibility-based consequence operators used to define the notion of beliefstate tolerate inconsistency under some conditions.
