The objective of this article is to reflect on the impact that Ricoeur’s work on psychoanalysis (following his book on Freud) might have on his concept of narrative identity. In these texts, one of the points he draws from psychoanalysis is that resistance mechanisms can hamper the process of self-recognition of the subject through the story that he tells himself about himself. These resistance mechanisms cannot be put to an end simply by understanding them intellectually. These writings teach us that, (...) in order to be brought to an end, these resistance mechanisms require more than the willingness to appropriate one’s own narrative identity. An appropriate technique to handle energies must be put into place. This explains why the production of a narrative identity can sometimes take the form of a real work. (shrink)

Alain Loute | : Cet article tente de montrer que différents conflits et tensions mis au jour par les éthiques du care sont occultés par l’éthique ricoeurienne. Dans un premier temps, l’auteur prend ses distances avec les critiques adressées par Tronto, suivant lesquelles Ricoeur développerait une éthique abstraite et conceptuelle. Dans un second temps, il prend appui sur des travaux portant sur les chaînes de care, l’intersectionnalité et la division genrée du travail, afin de montrer que dans nos sociétés, le (...) concept de care est traversé par une tension fondamentale : il désigne tout à la fois une pratique normative et des rapports de domination. Cette tension semble difficilement appréhendable chez Ricoeur, car, entre les relations interpersonnelles et le point de vue des institutions, la perspective des relations intergroupes fait défaut. Par ailleurs, en ne précisant pas véritablement la forme que peut prendre la sagesse pratique sur le plan collectif, il ne permet pas vraiment de penser les conditions d’une politisation des enjeux du care. L’article se termine en soutenant que les éthiques du care, quant à elles, tentent de trouver des réponses à ces tensions par des actions proprement collectives : par exemple en ce qui a trait à la réorganisation du travail du soin et à la discussion publique des besoins. | : This article attempts to show that different conflicts and tensions revealed by the ethics of care are overshadowed by Ricoeur’s ethics. Firstly, the author distances himself from the criticism developed by Tronto, who claims that Ricoeur develops an abstract and conceptual ethics. Secondly, he references the literature on the “care chain,” “intersectionality,” and the gender division of labour care to show that, in our societies, the concept of care is fraught with a fundamental tension: it designates normative practices and domination. This tension seems hardly comprehensible in Ricoeur because, between interpersonal relationships and institutions, the level of inter-group relations is lacking in Ricoeur’s ethics. Furthermore, without actually specifying the form that practical wisdom can take at the collective level, it is not really possible to think through the conditions of politicizing the issues of care. The article ends by showing that the ethics of care, meanwhile, attempts to resolve these tensions through proper collective actions: reorganization of care work, public discussion of needs, etc. (shrink)

For many authors, the transformations of capitalism have had the effect of causing suffering (stress, stigmatization, disaffiliation, etc..) whose social dimension is not recognized. For Emmanuel Renault, theoretical critique can analyze these new sufferings and become a "spokesman" giving voice to suffering beings. In this article, the author proposes to problematize this form of critical intervention, building on Paul Ricœur's reflections on the issue of the dispossession of the actors’ power to recount their actions themselves. If Renault’s intervention makes sense (...) in relation to the ideologization of narrative identity, it remains unsatisfactory against “internal” resistances to the emplotment of the self. Ricœur’s analysis of the analytic experience teaches us that these resistances cannot be lifted through mere intellectual understanding and that the narrative restructuration of the personality must sometimes take the form of real work. In the management of the Covid 19 crisis, digital technologies were used in a major way. This article defends the hypothesis that these technologies took the form of a “tacit social experimentation”. This article justifies this concept in three levels. The first part uses this concept to qualify the form of biopolitics that was implemented to manage the crisis. Digital technologies were used to discipline the population and, literally speaking, as instruments of knowledge of the population. Uncertainty forced experts to (...) make preliminary observations and act to produce knowledge. Second, this article shows that the use of digital technologies during the crisis was experimental in a second sense. By promoting telemedicine within a more flexible legal framework, the authorities authorised an experimental use of telemedicine without knowledge or control of its side effects. Finally, the article defends the use of the concept of “tacit social experimentation” for ethical and political purposes. For indeed, understanding the experiments carried out during the crisis begs the question of the involvement of the participants and their democratic steering. (shrink)
